Well gals, I’m taking the week off of blogging. Mainly I am finishing up writing the curriculum Bible study companion guide for the dvd series for my new book due out this fall.
I’m also going to watch my son play baseball at the Michigan Whitecaps minor league stadium in a showcase day.
And, I’m trying to help the hubster with some landscaping he is doing since he has the week off. (NOTE: In this 90+ degree weather, “helping” may be consist only of occasionally bringing him a homemade blackberry iced tea. Just keepin’ it real!)
In my absence, I am offering a second chance giveaway.
A while back, I offered this giveaway designed to help you hide scripture in your heart for those days when you so desperately need it. It is pictured here:
It includes:
~ A journal to record thoughts, prayers, etc…
~ A Bible highlighter
~ A nifty index card folder with 100 cards for writing out verses to memorize
~ A pack of large sticky notes to write out longer sections and stick them on your car dashboard or at your kitchen sink or bathroom mirror
~ A Dayspring mug and some blueberry herbal tea bags
~ The Passion of Jesus Christ by John Piper
~ Some P.S. I Love You lotion from Bath & Body Works (God’s feelings about YOU!)
~ Some dark chocolate covered pomegranate bits. Hey—come one—–pomegranates are in the Bible, right?
Well, the winner never claimed the prize even after multiple attempts to reach her via email. So, while I am gone this week, leave a comment with what you will be doing on the 4th of July. I’ll randomly choose a winner of this giveaway and announce her on Monday.
Me? I’ll be the one hauling iced tea out to the hubby like a good wife should.
And you?

We have a little hometown parade which brings in thousands,,,,,& the town is only about 150 people! Grew up watching the parade from my Grandmas house as it went right by on her street. My uncle would always have his restored Model A in the parade. Sweet memories…
You talking about Kunkle, Ohio? Our parade has its 50th anniversary this year, those of us that road our decorated bikes in the first parade are doing the same this year, it’s to be about 95 degrees but we’ll make it!
Traveling 2 hours to attend family reunion of in-laws with hubby. Being a good wife too. Everyone stay cool.
I’ll be watching a Shriners parade in very hot weather with my daughter, husband and nephew!
We are going to a friend’s house to swim an then watch fireworks at a local church. So thankful that my husband has 2 days off this week! I may have to make that blackberry iced tea for him. Thanks!
Our whole family gets together at my aunt and uncle’s house every year for a hamburger cookout. We eat and visit all day…..one of my favorite days of the whole year!
Well being Canadian we had our celebration already so on the 4th of July i will be working at home and taking care of my kiddos and packing for our much needed family holiday to the united states. YOu guys have the best places to visit and shop and do things and its cheaper for us to stay in places then in our own country Happy 4th to all my American friends even if via the computer
Ha, Sara………..I will soon be packing my bags and coming to Canada for vacation. Where do you live in Canada. I live in Michigan. Enjoy your vacation.
Thanks for the opportunity of a second chance giveaway, Karen! What a blessing that would be!
I had some surgery a few weeks ago so I will just be “hanging out” with my family on the 4th. No heavy work is planned that day!! My hubby is off work, we’ll swim and are planning on grilling & making homemade ice cream. We’ll watch the fireworks that night. Easy, easy day, hopefully! Have a wonderful week!! All is grace…
This 4th of July we will host our annual BBQ where everyone brings meat to share and a dish to pass! We swim, hang out, play lawn games, play a lot of pool volleyball and end the evening in lawn chairs in our front yard while doing the groups accumulated fireworks in the street! Good Times!
For the past three years we’ve been living on a street that has an annual all-day block party on the 4th of July! It’s the most fun day of the year around here. We get to hang out with neighbors and share breakfast, dancing, sports, a bouncy house, and a potluck where the men do the grilling and talk shop while the ladies catch up on all the latest neighbor news. It all ends with fireworks. This year, however, the city is doing sewer work, two of the organizers are out of town, one wonderful family that did the music and dancing moved away and some of the kids have head lice. No matter what happens I’m still going to bake my annual giant flag cookie covered with strawberries and blueberries. All of us are holding our breath waiting to hear if the city will let us close the street in spite of the sewer work. We love our 4th of July block party!
I will also be helping my hubby in this HOT weather! Since his only day off this week is the 4th, we’ll be pulling old siding off the 4-stall shed out back and prepping it for new siding that day. I will get up early to get my run in (training for a half marathon!) while letting him sleep in a bit. After I’m back, I’ll treat my family to a nice, homemade breakfast, then comes the fun of spending the day out in the hot sun
We’ll probably grill for supper then maybe head to a nearby town for fireworks! Or maybe just set our chairs up under the sprinkler and call it a day
I am a single divorced mom of my 14 year old awesome daughter
I am sure that we will celebrate the 4th with my parents and eat lots of watermelon and say a special prayer for our country. Just wanted to say Hi and I love your blog reading your site ) Happy 4th
Mandy
my father in law is coming to visit with his new camper and we will go to the parade and BBQ with him. My mother in law passed away last winter so I am so happy that he has chosen to spend this holiday with us. He is a very special man.
We don’t have any big plans for the 4th. Mostly just spending time as a family. Grilling is a definite possibility, and of course taking the kids to watch some fireworks!
We will cook out and watch the fireworks together.
We will go to our annual celebration of our dear son’s birthday. Hard to believe he is 20 now!!! Time for some yummy ribs.
4th of July is all about family. I’m taking a few days off to just hang out with the kids without a schedule!!
I will spending the weekend in the smoky mountains with my sweet family!
spending the holiday with family ……….and I would love to receive the prize
!
Our family of five has decided to stay home and relax on the Fourth of July and spend some quality time together. It seems our weekends are usually filled up and with our kids being older (18, 19 and 21), our family time together is getting rarer.
I’ve been working on memorizing scripture. Would LOVE to receive your gift package!! My plans for July 4th…I will be marhing in a parade with Operation Support our Troops America. I’m an Army Wife and Navy Mom…wouldn’t spend my 4th any other way.
Thank you!! Happy 4th to you.
I would love to tell you we were doing something fabulous, but our family is a bit overwhelmed at the moment (understatement) and the children are afraid of fireworks. So we are planning a quiet day at home, resting. I will make some special treats, and we will make some special crafts, but mostly we just need a day of refreshment.
My husband and 2 boys will be going to see our local minor league baseball team and watching their fireworks. Very American!
On the 4th of July, I will be spending the day with my son- at the pool. Trying to stay cool in these hot temps!! Maybe make some homemade tea! The blackberry tea sounds refreshing! Take some time to relfect on the sacrifices our fore -fathers made on our behalf…and thank God that I am blessed to live here in the U-S-A!!
I will be enjoying cold watermelon with the kids on the porch! Have a great 4th Karen!
Hugs, Jennifer
I am getting together with my extended family for a cookout and pool party. Plan on spending the day resting, relaxing and enjoying being with family.
We’ll be going out to our friend’s farm to have a little picnic and put off fireworks at dusk with the guys and the dogs who love this time. Celebrating God’s goodness to us and our freedom through Jesus Christ our Savior.
I will be celebrating with a few Marine friends of mine eating BBQ and watching fireworks on the lake. Remember those who fight for our independence
I’m having some family over to my hosue for a cookout and some yummy homemade peach ice cream! Can’t wait for that part!!!
Spending the day at the lake with the family……eating, playing in the water, and fireworks! I plan to stay in the house with my one year old granddaughter, and let the others enjoy the heat!! So blessed!!
I am heading to a condo with my family for the first get away since my hubby’s stroke 2 years ago. There will be nothing to mow, pull, fix or maintain for 3 days!! I am looking forward to a restful time with my hubby and 2 daughters!
We will be having a quiet day at home. Cooking a light meal and then going to the movies in the evening. These days a quiet family night is priceless!!! LOL!
We will begin our two and a half week vacation. We will be attending the hometown parade, watching the fireworks, and just spend some quality time with each other. And, yes, I will be hauling the ice tea to my hubby as well!!! : – )
Yard projects in July?!?! Whew! I will be cooking out with extended family next to the river at a local park. It’s a tradition that we look forward to. Thanks for offering the 2nd chance giveaway. Have a blessed day!
I will be hanging out with my parents and brothers, cooking out and setting off some fireworks.
Thankfully it rained this weekend so the fireworks shouldn’t be as much of a fire hazard with the drought we’ve been having!
Hubby will be off for the 4th, so we have planned to do some plumbing repairs and diy projects. We are going to our Son’s house for a cookout and then fireworks.
I will be spending the day at the lake with my family. Grilling and chilling!
Hope everyone has a great day.
We will be taking a day of rest and relaxation….after we put up a new flagpole and raise Old Glory to the top to celebrate our great country.
Don’t have Any plans for the 4th! Just hubby home with me relaxing….
Well…after I get my post up this morning, I’m going to take a break for the week too and we’re heading to Central Oregon for a family reunion with some family we haven’t seen in 10+ years…to celebrate my grandma’s 80th and my grandpa’s 85th birthdays.
Bend, OR has such a fun 4th of July and so we’ll watch the pet parade and enjoy the (Lord willing) beautiful weather…probably float down the Deschutes River on rafts.
But today the kiddos and I are going to team-clean the house, go through closets for an upcoming garage sale and write out packing lists.
Hope you enjoy your break and time with your family!
Love,
K
Spending with family!
My kids have camp on the 4th, so maybe my husband and I will get a little alone time out on our boat!
If I get the day off, I plan on doing some de-cluttering around here. But I may end up having to work; won’t know until the day before. Either way, working! Ha!
July 4th plans are as follows: begin the day thanking God that I was born in the USA and pray for our leadership, grill lunch for my Son and his new bride, catch up with them since this is their first visit since the wedding and conclude the day with a 4th of July crawfish boil at my church. Looking forward to a wonderful day! I am so proud and blessed to be an America!
We’ll be headed over to my cousin’s house like we do every year to have a picnic. She’s got a huge, flat yard great for games and a pool, so it will be fun!
My husband and I love to watch the fighter jets fly over our city’s parade route. The we go home and prepare a beautiful veggie tray to take to our family picnic later in the day. We have been doing this for many years and enjoy celebrating our country’s birth this way.
We are going to try to catch the rest of the kittens to give away. Go to the parade and that night to the fireworks.
We will celebrate my oldest’s 16th birthday with cookout, games, family and friends. Then head off to our towns fireworks. That is, if they aren’t canceled due to the fire risk.
I will be hanging with the kids this later this week. We are going to see our first auto race with the Legends 100, see a baseball game and then do a short road trip to somewhere new.
I hope to be canning God’s bounty on the 4th. Last year we had no garden due to drought and this year is looking a little better. Taking advantage of it.
A divorce is in my future so it will a very strange 4th of July. We usually go to this town where my mother-in-law grew up for a “small town America 4th”… it is perfect, a parade, outdoor games in the park, and then fireworks at night. The 4th is one of my favorite holidays. I dont know if I will get to spend it with my girls this year. I hope so, no matter how weird, for their sakes and mine.
Praying for you Michelle–
Hi Michelle,
My husband and I separated this year and he moved out 4 weeks ago so this 4th will be very different for me also. I’ll pray for you and your family…
Blessings,
Becky
We will just be enjoying each other here at the house – cookout, pool time, and ending the day with church as usual for a Wednesday! Looking forward to a day of downtime after a very busy few weeks.
Karen, I just want to thank for your wonderful words of wisdom, for listening to the Father and for your willingness to make the commitment you’ve made to Proverbs 31 and your personal blog. I’ve have been blessed through this ministry.
Since we live in the Ozarks we have decided to use our season passes and go to Silver Dollar City for their July 4th Celebration! We will be accompanied by our children and some of the students from our college group at church. Gonna be a fun day!
Enjoy your holiday and helping your hubby. I love helping mine work on projects, really, I do love that time together.
Love,
Lisa
Hi Karen! Enjoy the time with your husband this week and good luck to your son in his baseball tournament. Since the holiday is in the middle of the week, I’ll just have the one day off, but I plan to begin painting my kitchen now that the color is chosen (Iced Celery). My husband is going to be staining our deck if it dries out in time and I will be like you, making sure he gets enough hydration because we have had a lot of hot weather in SC. We will take the time out mid afternoon to grill hamburgers and hotdogs with my daughter and her boyfriend in the afternoon. Happy 4th of July!
A family we’ve known since preschool days (so, for nearly 13 years) hosts an annual “Morning of the 4th” party (sometimes on the 3rd, if the 4th falls on a Sunday). It’s become one of our traditions-lots of fun. Everyone brings goodies to share; it’s held at a local park. This family organizes all the games and prizes-e..g. three legged race, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contest. They give out ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in the various events. We love starting our 4th of July celebrating in this way! Our teenaged sons look forward to this annual tradition., which will once again be happening this year. Our dinner & evening plans are not set in stone yet; we may just barbecue burgers here and set off fireworks (legal here in Sacramento) later.
We may go to a minor league baseball game here in our city, have some hotdogs, and watch the fireworks after thevgame!
I will be doing absolutely nothing and I can’t wait. I am working Monday and Tuesday, then Thursday and Friday, so on Wednesday, I’m sleeping late (well, as late as my puppy will let me) and then I’m staying inside my house and catching up on my TV shows and reading. I hope to not even leave the house!!!!
I am going to see the movie Brave, take an afternoon nap and then spend the evening with friends watching fireworks.
This ole lady (57) will be heading out of town with hubby and our two girls here at home yet. (If the oldest is awake enough – she started detasseling corn today! It’s also humid and in the 90′s here)
We’ve been invited to our oldest dd’s home to celebrate the 4th.
Fried chicken, fresh from our garden cucumber salad, and more! (as far as food goes)
We’ll have the privilege of being with seven of our 11 grandkids!
It’s going to be loads of fun!!
Thanks for the chance to win,
Deb in NE
We’ll attend our church’s bbq and preaching and then another family will join us at our home for fireworks dessert. A perfect day! ~lyn
Hi Karen
I cannot tell you how much I enjoy the emails that I receive from you. Your articles are wonderfully refreshing. I am looking at retirement at the end of August. One of my goals is to increase my time in God’;s word. This gift would be a wonderful kick-start. On the fourth of July, we plan to have some quite time at home with our children -if possible. On Saturday the 7th, I will be celebrating with all my siblings. Each year on the 4th, we have a pool party and fun time together. There are seven of us children. When we all get together with our children and grands, we have a great time. We will observe our family “Independence Day Celebration” then with the watermelon cutting, etc. We have some in our family who have served our country in the military. We make a special time to thank them for their service to our country in protecting this freedom that we have. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday.
I have plans to march in a parade in my town and then a calm relaxing rest of the day barbeque with my husband.
We can’t decide due to near 100 degree temps. Wanting to meet my sister in Richmond for a Flying Squirrels baseball game (Farm Team) with fireworks following the game at the stadium. My husband is not keen on sititng in the bleachers when the high is to be 96, even if we find seats in the shade. May do the local celebration in Charlottesville, Va, fireworks at the park with friends.
The 4th of July is not only our country’s birthday, but also the 80th birthday of my dear friend Pat. She has no family nearby so we are giving her a celebration at our house!
Spending day with kids and husband, enjoying fact that God has given this past year with my husband who was diagnosed with cancer last year and had 2 surgeries to remove it. Praying that his 9 month checkup shows no cancer.
With the 4th being in the middle of the week we are keeping it low key this year. I’m hoping to get some projects done around the house and probably play some games with the kids or take them to the pool.
We’ll be hiking and barbequing with friends!
Our baby girl is getting married on July 14 so we will be busy putting together last minute details, getting ready for the bridesmaids luncheon on Saturday, etc. Not making any definite plans. Hopefully, it will be a quiet, restful day.
I am the Red, White and Blue…Queen!
Patriotic to the core.
Pleased to live here and protective of our country, it’s values and foundations!
Flags are up, plates, napkins, utensils….and some foods match the decor.
New friends will visit…healthy snacks to munch, hang out in and out of the pool.
And perhaps, while we grill….a patriotic song or two to hum, sing, shout?
Even tho we may not deserve it, I do ask that God Bless America!
Taking full advantage of the holiday to spend with my granddaughters and celebrate with some barbeque and fireworks.
I will be spending the 4th of July with family. My son is coming home from out of state, so it will be nice to spend time with him. We will probably do some cooking out and just enjoying spending time as a family. I am sure we will include fireworks in there somewhere, but haven’t made any plans yet.
Spending the day with family giving thanks to the Lord for our freedom!!
Celebrating our country’s birthday and one of my pastor’s birthday as well with cake, ice cream, and fireworks!!!!
My 33rd birthday is tomorrow and I will be getting a medical procedure @ 7:30 am & the 4th I will be taking care of our 9 children & my husband who is prepping for his first colonoscopy . I’m not sure what happens after we hit out 30′s but it’s not pretty ! Lol. Thanks for the chance to win! I’m not sure if it’s the number of children we have or our age but I have to live by a calendar/ lists to stay in track !
We will be getting together with friends for the hometown parade and community gathering.
We recently moved back home to Colorado Springs, so no fireworks obviously, but we will be getting the families together for a BBQ!
We’re hanging out at home. We probably won’t see any fireworks this year due to fire hazards. But praise the Lord it’s not as dry or as hot as it was last summer.
We won’t be doing much, our jobs and schedules are so different, that we rarely spend good quality time together, they are rare and few and far in between. My husband works 4-12′s at his main job as a correctional officer (prayers are always asked for my husband) plus he works a second job on three of his four days off from his primary job. I work M-F; 9-4 leaving me just about one hour to get dinner ready for the husband. The times we get to see each other are one hour between him getting home, dinner and then it’s off to bed, all this within one hour. Every other month we have weekends together, all making it hard sometimes to spend real good quality time, but when we have those few rare moments we will sit outside on the back porch and enjoy God’s beauty from our porch.
I will be going over to my sweet sister-in-laws house for a family barbecue.
My in-laws live on a lake – so we will spend the day there BBQing and keeping cool with all our extended families. At night there is a big fireworks display and then other “private shows” that continue on into the night. I love going to sleep listening to all the festivities and the great time we have with our family. Blessed by my faith, family and freedom!
We will be spending time with friends and family.
We will be eating and relaxing ?
I will be grilling in my backyard. I invited my best single mom friend over to bless her and the kiddos. We might also try and catch the firework display downtown!
My husband and I will be hosting the Transitions class (20′s-30′s) and Campus class from church at our house for a good old-fashioned July 4th. We will be cooking out, swimming, playing yard games such as horseshoes, have entertainment, and watch fireworks. We will have the traditional hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon, homemade ice cream, etc. Looking forward to the celebration!
I will be celebrating my 50th – Oh My! – birthday!
We will be going to my inlaws for the day, just to spend time with them for the 4th. Had a wonderful weekend meeting new friends. Keep the Hubby hydrated in this heat. Blessings.
No fireworks allowed here (we are so dry and having fires pop up everywhere, praying for some nice cleansing rain), so, we are just hosting a b-b-q and relaxing and enjoying time with our family! Hope you enjoy yours, Karen!
Our family is going to St. Louis to see a Cardinals ball game with great friends for the 4th. Ball game, stadium tour, concerts in the park, great food, and fireworks are on the agenda. GO CARDS!!!! Normally we just spend in the pool with family and cook out at the end of the day. We will miss family, but my boys will LOVE that we are taking in the nations passtime to celebrate the 4th this year!
Hi Karen,
I am busy getting the family and my home ready for a vacation over the 4th. We (my hubby, son, daughter and myself) are taking a neighbor child and my niece with us to Ocean City, MD for a week. We’ll have a beach day and then watch the fireworks. I will work in a lesson during the day on how blessed we are to live in this free country and while we are celebrating it, we need to continue to pray for those who are less fortunate around the world and give praise that we can live in a way that could reach out to help others. My father also served in the Air Force, defending our great country. So, it’s a favorite holiday of mine. THANK YOU for inspiring me to write this down, it just deepened my feelings about it all. I can’t wait to get everyone in the car and head down now. I pray blessings over you and yours this 4th of July! Agape!!
I love your blog – thank you for answering God’s call on your life and sharing it with us! I love that you make homemade blackberry tea and take it to your hubby in the yard. I am in the midst of the Proverbs 31 study with GMGirls and it’s been great. You certainly sound like a Proverbs 31 wife!
We are going down to the Cascades in Jackson, MI for the light show and fireworks on Tuesday and then going to see the parade in Mason on Wed.
Will be with family for a get together on Tues eve. Will pray for the country. A grandson is distributing water, etc and going door to door checking on people in Columbus, Oh, because of the power outages from the storms. He is with the Ohio Army National Guards. Husband is a vet and we are a very patriotic family. Thanks. Blessings on all today.
We tried out a church for the first time this last Saturday night. They are hosting a get together on the fourth of july where they will be selling food and shooting off fireworks. I am looking forward to this and hoping to meet some new people.
God bless and everyone have a wonderful week!
I will be serving at church camp! CampdaySprings!!!!four weeks serving and witnessing to children of all ages seeking God. Watching God move in the lives of the young and seasoned!!
thank you
We are having friends and family over for a cookout and then will watch our smalltown fireworks. Also will make another visit to the hospital to see my Mom and my very good friend.
I just love the way you let us know what you’re up to when you’ll be away from blogging. Excellent! The blackberry iced tea sure sounds refreshing.
July 4th? Well, happy 54th birthday to me! (And I did think all the fireworks and festivities were all about me when I was young.) I’m so happy that 2 out of my 4 girls will be home to celebrate. We’ll pick up my mom who won’t be exactly sure who I am (but pretty sure I’m one of her 4 girls…early stages of Alzheimers), but will be absolutely thrilled to join us for the parade. Then we’ll have a bbq and some homemade cupcakes from my daughters. If it doesn’t rain, we’ll end the day at the Yogi Berra Stadium here in town for the fireworks spectacular. Truly blessed!
I will be celebrating July 4th with family. I love to celebrate the freedom we have in this beautiful country and the freedom we have in Christ. What a glorious reason to celebrate!
Our first plan was to spend the day at an amusement park and watch the fireworks there, but now the heat index is supposed to be so high it doesn’t sound like as much fun. So we are going to adjust and check out other activities as a family. Children’s Museum, Science Center, Pool and then fireworks. Still lots fo family time together and the kids will still get their motel stay away from home.
We are having a cookout at church then communion and after a bunch of us shall go watch Fireworks yay we are excited to celebrate our God Given Freedom!!! We are so very blessed!!
Hubby and I will be replacing our mailbox post, which is leaning precariously
Since the 4th is in the middle of the week there is no time off to travel any where and the kids are scattered and live in different places than us. It will be a quiet but busy day for us, but soooo thankful for this USA!
prayer meeting for our nation, then vegetarian mini food fest,
then fireworks with kids and friends
Hello
I am actuallly a Canadian so we celbrated July 1. We had a great time taking our children 6 and 2 fishing at a beautiful lake.
Family morning at the beach, then a neighborhood party with church friends
I think we are having a quiet day with July 4th in the middle of the week. I would so love to win this prize. I have been struggling with my study time……..unfocused, disorganized, etc., and this just might be what I need to settle my mind and get on the right track. Enjoy your time off, be blessed in your writing and thanks for the chance to win.
Brenda Schiesser
Just been invited over to some good Christian friends for some hotdogs, watermelon and home made vanilla pound cake…and their front yard is the back of the park where they do our little hometown fireworks show! Walnut Cove NC.
Well probably like so many other 4th of July’s I’ll be working. Wish I were off to enjoy the fire works and eat a hotdog and hamberger. All of you that are off have yourself a great and fun 4th and think about all of us that have to work.
I’ll be working and being thankful that my office is air-conditioned!
4th of July will probably be pretty quiet around here — we’re under a burn ban! Regardless, it will be good time to spend with family and friends!
BBQing, family and fireworks. What a lovely basket you’ve put together!
I will be visiting my dad at rehab as he has been recooperating from a fall and then pneumonia. He will be going home at the end of the week. Also, I will be watching fireworks from the hill where the rehab is located. Happy 4th!
I will be preparing for a service trip to Ecuador with 2 of my daughters and having supper at my parents and helping my husband with whatever “to do” things he does on his day off.
This year we will be preparing for our daughters wedding which will take place on Saturday, July 7th. In the midst of preparations I am sure we will take time out for our annual tradition of watching fireworks all together with our family on the Mississippi River.
The kids have a bicycle and doll carriage parade around a assisted living facility and down the block to a park for foot races, hotdogs, and ribbons! The bicycles and doll carriages are all decked out in red, white and blue and the kids too! Simple, but they love it each year!
We are having several families from our church over for a cookout. There will be plenty of food and some fun time in the pool. Hoping the weather will cooperate. Very much looking forward to food, fellowship and fun and maybe some fireworks later.
Going to see fireworks and going to eat healthy!
My son is coming home for a visit to see us and his girlfriend. We are all going to watch the “Celebration of Freedom” parade. Of course there will be some BBQ and then the grand finale – fireworks. Happy 4th of July to all of you!
Ok so our 4th is a special family day. It is the day 21 years ago that our family moved to our hometown. Even though us kids have moved out of the nest we still try and come home for this special celebration. We start the day doing a fun walk/run in which we claim that as long as we beat the amublance trailing us we didn’t lose! Then we preceed to go to the local old time diner and gorge ourselves with pancakes and bacon. (carbo loading for next year we say) Then it’s home for showers and racing back to get our place for the town parade. (it’s only been 2 years that we haven’t had anyone from our family in the parade) Then it’s home for naps and relaxing. Once again we get things ready for grilling out and all of the wonderful side dishes that go along. Then it’s crashing until dusk where we then head to the town’s largest park and put out the blankets and chairs to watch the fireworks. (complete with glow sticks and kettle corn for the grandkids) After we SLOWLY make our way back to our carsit’s back to g’ma and g’pa’s house to sleep off the carb induced coma that is the 4th of July! Ahhhh, Monday isn’t too far away and we can start again!
happy 4th!
I will be staying cool at home with my daughter. We won’t be celebrating (my husband will be working) but we are so very thankful for our freedom, in Christ and in this country! Thank you to all men and women who fight for our freedom in America!!
I will be grilling some ribeye steaks on the back porch in this hot south Texas weather.
Our families live too far away for a family gathering, so hubby and I will probably enjoy the day at home with our chickens and produce. We may have to break out a puzzle or something we don’t normally do to keep the day from becoming “just another day.”
For the 4th of July, we are going to Holland, MI to visit with family, may end up going to Lake Michigan, after lunch at Pizza Hut. Then we’ll spend the night with my in-laws, and head to spend Thursday with my sister and her 4 kids. We may take all of our kids putt-putt golfing for the day. Later that evening we’re planning on having a Birthday party for my twin sister and I at a park where the kids can play on the playground and at the Splash Park, and a picnic dinner. Freedom, Family, Faith and Fun! Sounds like a great week to me!
We will be traveling up north (Iron Mtn – waaayyy up north) to see Zero Gravity, a Christian Extreme Sports/Outreach Event and relaxing with extended family. Praise God for our beautiful seasons we have in Michigan, as we should be able to tube down the river now.
Our son is coming home for a visit to spend some time with us and his girlfriend. The four of us are going to start the day by attending the wet/dry parade “Celebration of Freedom,” BBQ, and the grand finale – fireworks!
My family of five including one daughter out of college, one daughter just entering college, and one daughter in high school will get together under a tent with my extented family for a BBQ and then will go to a large local fireworks display which attracts thousands of people. The extended family is very large and can include up to 35 people or so and includes 4 generations. Fun times!
We will begin the day here with prayer and Bible reading and thanking God for the privilege to live in the USA. Then we will work on a home project and just relax before Wed. evening church service.
Homemade blackberry iced tea? Let me remind you how time consuming that could be….growing all those luscious, juicy berries. Fixing up a sweet, cooling beverage to enjoy as hubster takes a much needed break from the hot, summer sun. You are awesome!! My July 4th will probably be busy packing for a 10 day trip to Colorado with the whole family. Can’t wait.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Pam
I will celebrating my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday with her first ever birthday party. She has always had to combine her birthday with the 4th so this year it’s all about her. Then in the late afternoon I will celebrate with my 2 new grandsons – one biological and one foster child. Going to be a busy but wonderful day!
A family BBQ
Fourth of July will be different for us this year. Our oldest, Sophia, is gone to Word of Life camp this week so she won’t be with us (although I am sure she is enjoying herself with her friends & growing closer to God), and that’s a first for us. We have 5 children and we ALWAYS spend the 4th of July together. Usually we go swimming, out in my mother-in-law’s boat, then have a cookout & off to the fireworks. They have a small carnival where the fireworks are held & the kids ride some rides & we all share some funnel cakes (and sometimes some very-bad-for-you fried oreos :/ ). I’m sure we’ll still do some, if not all, of those things just to keep it normal for the other kids (who are missing her too).
Happy Independence Day! May we all remember the reason we celebrate it!
We live on a lake and are hosting a huge 4th celebration
for family and friends, expecting about 100 people. We will
have friends bringing their children and grandchildren. .
My parents, children, and grandchildren will all be here.
God has blessed us with our lake home, so we try to use it
as a ministry of relaxation for others. Everyone can fish, swim,
or boat on the lake. We will have BBQ, pitch in dishes, watermelon,
and my husband’s yfavorite drink-Cokes. Fireworks will be the
Grand Finale. I always pray for safe and fun-filled day.
I’ll be getting ready for a very special long-weekend at our family beach house for my dad’s 60th birthday. He doesn’t know that’s why we’re going or that all 4 his kids (+ spouses) and his 5 grand-kids will be there! So looking forward to it!
We’ll be spending the day with friends. A Parade in the morning, bbq and fireworks in the evening. Should be fun!
My sweet little family of 6 is traveling out of state for the July 4th holiday to visit my husband’s family….his grandmother has never even met 2 of our children (the youngest is 7!). We are super-excited to see our loved ones!
My husband and I will be celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary at the local minor league baseball game WITH after-game fireworks display! It’s our “tradition” – since this is how we spent the evening after our wedding reception was over…..popcorn, baseball, & fireworks with my best friend and the love of my life. What could be better than that?! =)
We Might have company over, their plans are dependent on family members who might be coming back from out of town that day. We will definitely set off some fireworks though they are nowhere near what they were like when I was a kid. (Showing my age!) Either way, we plan on enjoying each other and God’s goodness to us!
I will be relaxing and packing on the 4th. On the 5th I get to drive to see my son who is in the Army. It will be the first time we get to see him since he left on April 30th. I can’t wait!!!!
We are heading to friend’s houseboat on local lake for the weekend after the 4th! Relax time!
Our family will be with our Church Family celebrating with a devotional, potluck, and fireworks!!!
I will be relaxing at home with the hubby!
Clearing out clutter! Enjoying family later in the day.
Hi Karen, wow you offer another gift, sure nice of you. We will see a parade in a small town near us, then back to cook-out here at home or may be with in-laws would be nice. We will swim with the neighbors at their pool than off to see the fireworks at a park in our town. Good Luck on that out side project and Happy 4th of July to all!
Our church is having a 4th of July Fellowship, a concert, barbecue and gospel message, in place of our normal Wednesday evening service. My husband is coordinating the event so we will be very busy setting up, overseeing and cleaning up. We are so blessed to be able to serve the Lord and are praying for many lost souls to come to know the Lord.
Living in Central Illinois our 4th of July celebration will be somewhat different from our norm.
We are so dry here, drought, so have to be so careful of fires, don’t know yet if our small town, 400 population will have our normal fireworks display. Our town ends up with thousands of people to watch them across the small town lake.
We just pray the right decision will be made.
Linda G
We will be going to a family cookout!
Ziplining with my husband, pooltime with my boy, and then probably church in the evening. With 100+ degree weather, no fireworks allowed in my part of Kentucky =(
Several ladies from our church have planned to come to my house and bless me with house cleaning since I am currently 7 weeks out of knee surgery and still can not walk or put weight on my knee. God knows what I need at this time, and I pray that he will use me to touch those that need me while I am laid up on the couch. May God continue to bless you as you are on your feet taking the tea to your hubby during this heat that we are having!
Well, the kids are at summer camp, so my hubby and I will be hoping to enjoy some needed quality time together – local July 4th parade and fireworks in the evening. Quiet but hopefully a blessed time together.
I have enjoyed your column and the many helpful Christian comments and suggestions that you send to us each day. It is so helpful to realize there are people with the same problems I have and the same feelings that I have. I enjoy the many suggestions you have.
A day off from teaching yoga! To be spent with friends, catching up,
playing games, and eating lots at a barbecue/potluck. Finishing it all
off with a fireworks display. A blessed, blissful day!
Will be spending it with family – and trying to stay cool!!
I’ll just be hanging out at home with the family. Maybe shoot off some fireworks at night.
The kids and I will be watching the fireworks at the airport in Plainwell.
Thanks for the “second chance.” We will be headed to the beach this 4th of July. We only live a few minutes away from the beach, but we haven’t had much beach time this year, so we are making up for lost time : ) Happy 4th of July!!!
Reading above brought back memories: Going to my maternal Grandparents for BBQs (this will be the first 4 July without Granddad); watching parade & fireworks…. This year will be very quiet, just my Daddy & me (I am basically homebound right now & between the heat & a recent medical procedure Daddy not doing real well either).
Swimming, grilling and chillaxing with the whole family. May watch city fireworks from church if display not cancelled.
Hi Karen! We are going to most likely rest and take it easy! We recently returned from a 4100 mile roadtrip, and have lots of things to catch up on around the house. I’m thinking of making a semi-healthy patriotic dessert with bluberries, strawberries and homemade whip cream.
Have a blessed week! Would love to know how to make that delicious tea you spoke of serving to hubby.
Spending the day with my hubby. Probably take in fireworks in the evening at local park (depending on the heat index). If over 100 degrees, will watch fireworks that are on the tv. Blessings
My hubby and I will be going away for 10 days to a cabin close to Nipigon, Ontario, Canada. The getaway is so needed. I think I’m headed for a “Jesus year”. I’m coming to peace (slowly) about leaving a teaching job at a Christian School, which I loved. This gift package would be great for the “Jesus year”.
I will be celebrating my birthday with the kids and dear husband!! Another year older! Just hangin gout a thome and maybe the pool in the afternoon – can’t wait!
Cookout with family and then another cookout with International Students and watch fireworks.
Will we spending July 4th at church family camp. My husband and I always look forward to it. It is a time of fun food(both spiritual and physical) and fellowship with friends.
Enjoying the day off work and bumming around shopping with my boyfriend. We had our fireworks last Saturday.
I’ll be on the sidelines watching my kids play soccer and encouraging their smoking hot coach (my husband and their dad).
I haven’t had a “playday” for awhile, so I’m thinking about wandering around taking photos while my other half is at work (yes, work on the 4th–but thanks be to God we have jobs). Because of our drought conditions all fireworks in the area have been cancelled or postponed, but I’m thinking a party is still in order…
We plan to grill out, have backyard games and sprinkler fun for the kids, and let thme make ice cream in a ziplog bag (so much fun for them!). We won’t get to see firewords this year as it is just too dry and too dangerous for individuals or the cities to put on a fireworks show. Maybe we’ll get in a game of bowling too, we have free bowling passes for the kids for the whole summer! I pray everyone has a safe and blessed 4th!
We will be having a cookout with family.
WE HAD OUR CHURCH CELEBRATION SUNDAY EVENING. SO WE WILL BE RELAXING AT HOME AND STAYING COOL. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS KAY
Originally, I was going to enjoy a quiet house while other family members went to an annual party that I prefer not to attend. Now, we’ll be going to my brother-in-law’s for a few hours. None of our kids will be with us, so it’s hubby and me, his mom, his brother and sister-in-law, and their 3 kids. I sure hope I like to kayak, cuz barring major illness there’s no way out of this event. Even after 25+ years of marriage the in-laws are not ones I would choose to spend time with. Not good, but honest.
I will be cooking out and enjoying the family!
I’m Canadian and our independence day is on the 1st. I spent it with my family. Does that count?
We will start the hot day out in the pool. Then over to our friend’s, Gordon & Pat, house for a barbeque and to watch the fireworks from their back yard – view is awesome! They live 1 block down the hill from the park where the fireworks are…lots of ooos and awes!!
Happy 4th to everyone…God bless America!
I will be spending this holiday with my son Justin, he will be leaving the nest later this month to attend school in Colorado Springs, this is our fourth son leaving, and no matter how many times, still hard to get use to, so I am remembering every moment.
I will be cooking and having fun with family!!!
My husband is in the middle of 727 training but has the 4th off so I will most likely spend at least part of my day helping him study airplane stuff that I really don’t understand. I am also trying to come up with something special to do with our boys to celebrate the day!
Hope you have a great 4th with your family!
Christina
My husband & I will be spending our fourth of July at Gas Works Park in Seattle, where we will picnic and watch a great and patriotic fireworks display.
Staying in where it’s cool !!! Thanks for such a thoughtful give-away!
We will be celebrating my grandsons birthday-Yes he is a little firecracker though born on the fifth very early in the morning! We were watching fireworks when my daughter called & said they were going to the hospital! We try to make the day about him so he feels special! He probably wonders why all the kids don’t get fireworks on their birthdays but he is only going to be 3 so he’ll learn why soon enough! Have a wonderful respite & enjoy your family! May God bless you!
I’ll be working, but after that, it’ll be to a bbq’s at a friend’s house and then to the park to catch fireworks with the kids!
We will have a small group of family and friends to our house for food and fellowship. Plus the best seat for the towns fireworks. Enjoy your sons game and time with your husband. Lets show our American pride.
Thank you for blessing someone with this gift package.
Our family will be relaxing and enjoying my husband’s day off, grilling something yummy (gotta plan meals today!) and playing in the pool that grandma and grandpa blessed the six sibs with last summer. Then, we will go to church and enjoy a homemade ice cream social after wards with our church family. We will be bringing sugar-free (agave and stevia sweetened) vanilla with homemade dark chocolate sauce. And, probably gf/sf brownies.
Thank you again!!!
Elizabeth
Hi Karen that sounds like an awesome give-away to me! By the way, Pomegranates are very good for you and so is the dark chocolate so it would be considered a healthy treat in my book! I am brunching with my singles group from church morning of the 4th, spending some time with my dad in the afternoon and just working around my apartment trying to get some things done that need attention. Not forgetting those who made our freedom possible and being forever grateful to those from the past and those who are still giving of themselves to keep our country free! God bless them and our country, tThe Good Old U.S.A.!!
We have 2 celebrations to attend. The first being at lunch with family and that evening at a friends home for grillin, fishing, swimming and a huge firework show over their lake. Cooking begins a day ahead for this ! Hope to win !
We have a tradition of playing 18 holes of golf with our family and friends-in-law. Then grill out at one of our houses.
Staying out of the heat, catching up on reading, blogging, and getting kisses from the grandkids!
What I’ll be doing on July 4th? At 65, I don’t “do” heat very well, and here in Texas it is sure to be hot, so I’ll just be inside the house wishing I had your recipe for homemade blackberry iced tea!! That sounds delicious!
It will be a quiet day since my husband is on call at the hospital…..but we will likely go see fireworks if they are not cancelled due to the heat and drought. Happy independence day!
The 4th of July is all about family. I will be attending a cookout with my in laws which by the way is always a ton of fun. I would love love to win the prize……sometimes you just need a little something for you. Thanks so much. I really enjoy reading your blog.
We will be spending the 4th of July cleaning up our yard from the horrible storms that swept through our area. Thankfully, no one here was hurt but just alot of clean up. Time together though : )
-Colleen G.
I think of another year of the birth of our nation. I am proud to be an American. I will think much on what and why 9/11 happened. I will pray for all those who lost their lives and what this did to our country. My husband works on the 4th and my 2 boys are working and after having fun with their friends. Just recently my dear friend had a horrible mishap in her life, loosing all she had, but it was good knowone died. This 4th I plan on spending quite time praying for God to help she and her family. God has already called on me to help by putting them in a hotel for 1 week. I believe God will help our country overcome all it’s difficulties we are experiencing now. So on our countries birthday I am giving thanks to our elderly who have done everything to make us what we are today. God Bless each and everyone of them.
I will probably be hanging around the house with my family until fireworks time!
We will spend the 4th of July with my parents and our daughters. My Dad is a veteran and we will also be praying for all serving and previously serving. Our oldest daughter is a veteran as well.
I will, hopefully,be getting my paraplegic son out of the house and away from his video games, and get my teenage daughter(who is super busy with cheer),and my hubby(who is also disabled) all to go watch fireworks at our friends’ house. We watch the local ones over our small town, and then do a few of our own, plus do some BBQ’in and sendin prayers to our troops and to the vets who fought for our country(like my friends hubby,my daddy,my grandpa, etc, etc)…Praise God,and Happy Independence Day!
I will be arriving in Maine with my youngest dauter. We will be spending the day with my in-laws and my son (who has been in Maine since the end of May). Boy do I miss my boy.
I am a Recovery Room nurse and will be on call for any emergency surgeries. After that, though, I will go to a bbq with my family!
Well, my hubby is out of the country so it’s up to me to brave the traffic and hot weather and take my kiddos to see our local fireworks. Although, if they can be bribed with a trip to Ritter’s for a cool treat instead……I’m all for that!
My hubby and I will be spending a quiet day for just the two of us after having 4 of our grandchildren with us for the last month after the last year with their parents and all 5 of them living with us. It was a real blessing to have them but we really need a little time just for us. We will also visit his 91 year old mother for a while.
We’ll be cooking, eating, playing, laughing and praising the Lord with our children and grandchildren. God bless the USA!
We will be driving to visit with some Family friends, have a yummy cookout, swim, and watch fireworks!
taking the week off as well for some much needed recharging!
My family and I will be watching fireworks on July 3rd in our hometown and having a fish dinner with extended family on July 4th.
I am going to enjoy my first cup of coffee on the deck while I read the morning paper. Next, I will be open for a spontaneous adventure with my hubby…whether it is a drive or just to work in the backyard gardens. It will be a nice break from other busy 4th of July days…but we are going to enjoy!
Have a wonderful week Karen
If it’s not too hot, I’m planning to go to an outdoor band concert, featuring all patriotic songs, and grilling dinner outdoors. I feel like I’ve already celebrated the 4th since I spent the weekend with family and we went to a fireworks show last Friday, a wonderful (but very warm) air show Saturday in Battle Creek, swimming twice; and the grand finale was a wonderful sermon, “One Nation Under God – Our Ultimate Purpose” at my daughter’s church, complete with honoring all branches of the military service and former and current service men and women in attendance.
My family and I plan to have a cookout on the evening of the 3rd, then spend a quiet day together on the 4th watching movies, reading and eating leftovers.
I’m happy to tell you what I’ll be doing for the 4th of July. My church family is fasting for three days and interceding for our country. The grace of God on that is amazing! The men will get together to pray on the 3rd and the whole church will celebrate with two meals together on the 4th. We’re showing our children, by our example, that God will change things if we pray. We’re not that interested in fireworks anymore. We stay up late to pray some more! That’s what this country needs most right now!!!
We will be cooking on the grill but with as hot as it has been we are planning on eating inside in the air conditioning. Trying a new recipe for Hawiian Pork Burgers.
We will be going to a family bbq at my mother-in-law’s.
We truly live in a wonderful country but do so hate to see the direction we’re headed. I would love to stay home and veg. However, it truly depends on whether my grandson goes with his mom that day. If he doesn’t we have a town BBQ (fire dept puts it on) we’ll go to later in the day. Earlier in the day I’ll have my parents and two brothers over for a bbq-otherwise they wouldn’t do much. I enjoy cooking for them. Will fill up the kiddie pool for grandson and I’m sure the woof will sneak into it to cool down. A game of bocce or something fun too. Thanks for the ideas everyone. We picked up red, white, and blue Chips Ahoy (my grandson’s idea). We’ll have all kinds of fresh fruit and yummy things. I won’t be staying up late as I work the next day.
We spend the 4th at my aunt’s house .. Large family party with BBq, pool time, fireworks, homemade ice cream … and live music performed by cousins!! One of my favorite holiday get togethers all year!
I’ll be celebrating with my in-laws on their boat, at the beach, eating yummy treats, and watching the Boston Pops fireworks!
Attending the local parade and going to see the *fireworks*
We will be making homemade ice cream, chasing
lightning bugs, and watching fireworks.
BBQing and watching fireworks from our patio.
Hi Karen! I’ve taken the week off too. So nice to not have to worry about a schedule! Today we “built” some new Adirondack chairs for our patio and painted the one for my 7 year old daughter purple! Hoping to spend some time reading my bible study material in my new chair on the patio during the cooler times of the day! For the 4th I will get to have all my kids and my grandson over for a BBQ (complete with a brisket smoked by my sweet hubby!). We will hang out, play some games and enjoy the city fireworks display. Am looking forward to great food and fellowship with my family! Hope you enjoy your 4th and your week off. Thank you for all you do for us!
This 4th of July my family will be hanging out at home. We will do some swimming in my in-laws pool and might throw some ribs in the smoker. We will possibily go see the fireworks. Not to sure yet though as the roads in a lot of areas around us are still underwater or damaged by TS Debby.
Enjoying my family and hopefully making homemade ice cream with fresh strawberries! : )
I’ll be providing excellent customer service at Universal Studios
but missing out on my family block party.
family time early in the day then headed to an Az Diamondbacks game with the hubby later that night!!
Nothing planned but thankful to live in America & for the freedom we so often take for granted.
We will spend the day at our church’s rec complex with hundreds of friends playing baseball, volleyball, and basketball (Ideally it wouldn’t be 100 degrees!) The games will be followed by a cookout and a patriotic mid-week service, with all of the festivities ending in time for us to head to a local fireworks display.
Our little Kunkle, Ohio parade celebrates its 50th anniversary and I will be riding my decorated bicycle with all my ‘old’ friends, just like we did for years when we were little. Will be extremely hot but memorable!
We will be going to a lake in the Sierras for a horseshoe tournament during the day. And hopefully watching some fireworks at a casino at night (then back to work on Thursday)
We will be going to a lake in the Sierras for a horseshoe tournament during the day. And hopefully watching some fireworks at a casino at night (then back to work on Thursday)
The prize pack looks great and sounds yummy!
I will be working on my dissertation.
I will go to our parade with good friends in the morning and come home to my husband making lunch for me and my in-laws.
We are going to a parade and having a cookout with my husbands family
Having just returned from visiting my mom in Michigan and then resting at our timeshare, I’ve been unpacking and trying to get back on schedule. I have left the 4th open for whatever invitation presents itself. I suspect that we will be at my son’s, a fantastic cook who makes a mean barbecue.
Wishing you a rewarding and memorable 4th of July week. God bless.
I will be in a parade in our small town promoting the Battle of Kirksville. Our 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Kirksville (Missouri) will take place in August, and so many of us will be dressed in period piece clothing to promote the battle reenactment. Then it is bar-b-queing with family and watching the fire works!
We are having a big family shin dig!
We are sending our kids to church camp on the 4th then that evening we are getting together with some other parents for a cook-out and to watch fireworks. Looking forward to the relaxing evening. Thank you Karen for the second chance giveaway. Will be praying for you as you finish your writing!! Have a wonderful & Happy 4th of July!
I will be working at the hospital, However with all of the ravaging storms that have taken most people’s power and water in the scorching heat….it is the least I can do. It makes me realize how much we take for granted, AND how quickly things can change. People’s lives were changed and many lost in an instant…so thankful to serve a God that can make a way when there seems to be no way. AND not to mention how desperately grateful I am to our service men and women on this day we celebrate our country and our freedom! Me, working…oh well. Truly, no big deal!
We plan to watch fireworks at Lake DeGray and maybe make homemade ice cream!!
We will celebrate at home. Play with the kids. Husband will golf. I’m hoping to scrapbook. At night we’ll watch the fireworks on TV.
I’ll be spending the day with my sister & her family. Since losing my husband, mother, brother, and father all in a 6 month period–my little family has gotten so much smaller. I have one sister, 2 children & 3 grandchildren. But we know the importance of family, faith, and living each day to it’s fullest. Each day is precious.
We live by a beautiful lake and there is a sailboat association that puts on a 4th of July sailboat parade, which is very fun to watch from the beach where we will BBQ with friends and family and watch the fireworks show later thatnight that is put on over the water. A day of spectacular sights in Gods wonderful creation.
I’ll be spending the day with my family and neighbors.
Planning a relaxing 4th with family & friends. We have a local fair so will probably hang out there for awhile and then enjoy the fireworks to end the evening.
We will be with our church family having homemade ice cream and desserts and watching the big city fireworks display
I’ll be at work (in Canada) but for Canada Day this past Sunday, I spent time with my family in the celebrations downtown! My young daughter enjoyed the long parade and sat on the street curb for over 2 hrs! It’s precious to us since my husband previously worked weekends and holidays so it was a blessing to be able to spend this day as a family!
My husband and I will be shooting a fireworks show for a small rural town in Arkansas. We love doing it together. Everyone seems to enjoy the show so it makes us feel like we did a good job. Hope everyone has a safe 4th.
We are going to go over to some friends’ house and swim in their pool and each delicious food. No fireworks this year as there is a ban due to the dry weather, but I am ok with that. Should be a wonderful time of fellowship and relaxing.
Being home alone while other household members went to a family party was the original plan. Due to party host’s hospitalization (nothing horribly major just bad timing) that event had to be cancelled. Now it looks like hubby and I will be going to his brother’s place for a few hours. The kayaking is about the only thing that’s got me not looking for a way out. I know that sounds horrible, but I’m just being honest here.
We will be spending the fourth with our daughter, son-in-law and brand new grandson!! Because our son-in-law and daughter are in the Army, we have not been with them for 8 years on the fourth, so we are very excited. We are cooking on the grill and then watching fire works on base at Fort Meade, MD. Even plan to spend the night at their house. God is good.
Awww…thank you for second chances! My July 4th holiday will be spent at the neighborhood cookout and trying to survive the heat
Many thanks for your blog!
we will be having my sister-in-law over for lunch. she lost her husband in March to cancer. he went fast once he found out he had it. but she is doing good. i my self have some health problems, but i am so much better off than most. i just am very thankful. we will be having spaghetti and garlic toast. yum, yum.
we will be having my sis-in-law for lunch. gonna have spaghetti. and garlic toast. just so thankful for so many things.
oops, i couldn’t find the first post, so i goofed and have a second one. just ignore one of them if that’s what is needed. i want to be fair to everyone.
I’ll be bbqing with my family.
it is supposed to be 100 degrees but i will attend a parade to salute the veterans and hear the high school bands play patriotic songs
later…FIREWORKS
I’ll be taking my 84 year old mother to visit my brother in Montana. I will miss my hubby and grand kids, but I’ll be making memories with my mom and brother.
My girls and I recently discovered those chocolate pomegranate candies- yummy! We are spending the day with family and making pizza with my Granny.
My family was invited to spend time with a church family… have dinner and watch the fireworks. It’s our first time to visit with this family and we are looking forward to the 4th of July to have fellowship with them.
We are going to have a quiet day at home with family and good food.
I am going to be spending my holiday off preparing something for the she speaks conference. I just signed up a few days ago at the prodding of our Lord and to be quite honest, I haven’t a clue as to what I am doing!! I’m signed up for the writer’s track and truly, I am not a writer….but God seems to think that this is where I should be heading……I’m hoping to discover why while I’m there! So….writing! That is what I am doing on the 4th!! I hope you enjoyed your week off! Lisa
I too will be helping the husband, fix the pool deck, trimming some bushes and helping our boys with their 4-H projects. It will be loaded with a lot of sweet tea and probably ice cream. There will be fireworks in the evening!
I will be picnicking with my hubs and kiddos!
We ended up cutting our camping trip short due to the heat; the camp ground lost power yesterday so today we will be enjoying the pool, eating lots of food and I think movies when it is too hot are in order after sweating it out for 5 days
We’ll be workingn on our “Honey-Do” list, taking hte dog swimming, and letting the children play in the sprinkler….so we don’t lose our minds in this scorching heat!
Thank you for the entry.
I spent the day with family. Eating, swimming, and more eating!

My plans are pretty boring it seems. We usually have a big get together at our house with family but this year is a little different. Our nephew is getting married this coming weekend so they are all busy with that and couldn’t come over. Most of our family lives like two hours away so the 4th being in the middle of the week makes it difficult. Our youngest son is gone to church camp so just me and the husband. We watched a neighborhood bicycle parade earlier. We then went and ate at a new restaurant in town, now we are lazily sitting on the couch! Have a good week!!
I made a sweet little 4th of July dress for my granddaughter, I grilled for my family, we ate watermelon and got in our little pool to cool off, and finished it off with the fireworks at our local football stadium. A restful and relaxing time with family…
I hope I’m not too late to be entered in drawing!! We went to the lake and stayed cool and ate and had a great fireworks display! It was a great day w/ friends and family!
We ate out ,swam Z& watched fireworks!
Went with the family to an Aunt and Uncles house and ate traditional foods. Yummy
Then Shot fireworks! Invited our neighbors over to share in the fun.
Well, it’s past the 4th now…but I went to a parade with my kids and dad. After that I just relaxed. It was a great day!
Our 4th was celabrated with family and a cookout. Our neighbors provided a great fireworks show. (We live out in the country and there was no ban on fireworks in our county.)
My hubby is a firecracker baby! Every year we have his family over for a cookout, however, we are in the midst of moving, and we are quite unsettled still, so my brother-in-law graciously invited everyone over to their place! We had a lovely cookout, and the kids enjoyed playing in the pool and water sprinklers in the late afternoon to beat this crazy Illinois heat! It was a wonderful day, ending with watching fireworks from their back deck.
We just hung out as a family. We went swimming, cooked some chicken. It was very nice. And for an extra special treat we saw a few fireworks from our front porch.
OK I know it’s after the 4th but I just found your blog. You are announcing the winner tomorrow, so here’s my entry. I stayed at home and chilled out. I read and napped. It was a wonderful day!
