LET. IT. GO. Launch

NOTE: Have you read my devotion Find & Replace over at Encouragement for Today? If not, click here.

Almost two years ago, I had an idea for a book and Bible study. Today, that book and its companion 6-week Bible study dvd goes on sale.

You see, it wasn’t a subject I thought I was skilled at. Not a strength. Or area of expertise.

It was an area where I was a complete and utter failure.

It was an idea to write a book on how to stop being a control freak and start trusting God.

Believe me, this is an area where I have struggled and failed and often steamrolled over my family.

But through it all, God was faithful to take the cry of my heart (I really didn’t want to be so controlling) and make something beautiful out of it.

So, it is with both great astonishment and pleasure that I welcome you to launch day of LET. IT. GO. How to Stop Running the Show & Start Walking in Faith.

The foreword is written by Candace Cameron Bure (yes, DJ Tanner from the sitcom Full House)

Here is the description:

Women are wired to control. We make sure the house is clean, the meals prepared, the children are dressed, and everyone gets to where they’re going on time. But sometimes our strength of being conscientious can morph into the weakness of being a slight—or all out—control freak! This humorous, yet spiritually practical book will help you to:

  • Take control of your schedule yet welcome interruptions from God
  • Draw the line between mothering and micromanaging
  • Influence your husband instead of manipulating him
  • Learn to control your emotions when you can’t control the circumstances
  • Stop pursuing the appearance of perfection and start pursuing the person of God

NOTE: A 6-week teaching dvd and Bible Study guide is also available for group and individual use.

I’m giving away a copy of the book today to one commenter. And, friends Tracie Miles and Courtney Joseph are also participating in the blog tour for my launch and offering giveaways. You can find their sites here and here.

And I am also offering a free resource to help you not be a control freak at the holidays. (That is when I kick it into high micromanaging gear!)

From Chaos to Calm: The LET. IT. GO. Christmas Challenge is an email campaign that you can sign up for anytime between now and Christmas and it will come to you for five days beginning the day you sign up.

And, you might just win a Kindle Fire for participating!

Here is the description:

Do you often have Norman Rockwell-like expectations about the holidays—the decorations, the food, the gifts, the activity-laden schedule, the family get-togethers?

There are many areas where women want to exert control ensuring the perfect yuletide season. What if we learned instead to let go of unrealistic expectations and embrace an “out-of-control” Christmas this year: relaxing and relating in a peaceful manner while letting others offer input and ultimately allowing God to call the shots?

This five-day challenge will allow Christmas to go from chaos to calm as you learn to control what you should and trust God with what you can’t. The result? Less stressing and more blessing!

Finally, if you want a sneak peek at this project, view the book trailer below. Tomorrow I will be posting the entire first teaching session of the dvd free just for my readers!

And let me say, I can’t thank you all enough for your love and support. The way you gals leave comments, post on Facebook and tweet it up about my site and books blesses my heart!!!

Now, to be entered to win a copy of the book, simply leave a comment on this post that says “LET. IT. GO.”!

Okay….so now without further chit-chat, here is the trailer for LET. IT. GO.

There are so many things that I need to let go of and give straight to God. Thanks for the verses – I intend to write them on index cards for quick reference and find others as well.

Posted on facebook last night after the Go to Gals message. So excited to read this book! I struggle with this and this is an answer to prayer. Thank you Karen for being so honest in your post today and writing this book.

  10. Crystal says

I posted your first pre-written statement on my facebook this morning, along with a comment that the book is available on Kindle through Amazon and that I would be happy to host the DVD Bible study for any friends who would like to join me. LET. IT. GO.

  11. Elaine Segstro says

LET.IT.GO. Can I do that? Just when it seems my life is developing a pattern, and I’m in somewhat of a “comfort zone”, God throws a curve ball. It’s happening now, and I find it hard to know what to do – stay with the just recent “familiar” or pursue a new job opportunity?? Yikes!

  12. Stephanie says

I’m not saying I totally NEED to read this or anything (because that would NOT be acceptable from someone who is in control!!:) ), but WOW does this Type-A momma need to read this! I always appreciate your insights, humor, and the way you speak directly to women’s hearts. Thank you!

  13. Pam says

I loved the 5 day Chaos to Calm, but am afraid I need more help. Bless you for having the courage to examine your life and create this book for the rest of us to have hope and encouragement!

  14. Cris Nitz says

Would LOVE to get this…With a remodel project, fulltime job, the holidays, 1 FABULOUS Husband, an energetic 14 yr old Fulltime Dancer/Fulltime Freshman daughter, a wonderfully inquisitive 8 yr old part time dancer/fulltime 2nd grade daughter and my incredibly confused (by the remodeling) 10 yr old dog…one might think I may need this…

  15. says

Lately I feel like I have let too much “go.” I have been trying to get better about my responsibilities as a wife and mom. I am hoping that this study will help me find BALANCE most of all! Thank you for this giveaway.

  16. Paula Lloyd says

Tweeted and Facebooked…pinning in a few…oh I NEED to LET.IT.GO….it is a hard thing for me to NOT be in control.

  17. Amy C. says

Will be sharing your great lines for Let. It. Go. with my mom’s group. Great Proverbs devotional. Been trying to do more and more of what you are saying but I am struggling with my MIL. I always had such great respect for her…raising 4 kids without a husband, etc. A few years ago, we discovered she had regularly been relying on one of her children to add money to her bank account. She loves to give and spend, but doesn’t have it. This is also the one who told her kids when they are 18 and done with H.S. then they are on thier own. They paid for their own college and made their own lives. She retired early. And now is in constant need of money. And still won’t do anything to help herself (like garage sales, by passed an opportunity for a research study, etc.). So here you have someone who refuses to help themself unless it’s going to her kids for them to give to her. It feels so unchristian to say “enough” but she is refusing to do what she can for herself. And as long as the kids keep giving, then it definitely won’t stop. Tough love is needed but we feel like we are the bad guys (I am a stay at home mom with 3 kids). I’ve tried to go help at her house but ultimately it doesn’t do any good. So with reading your devotional, it makes me think we should just keep encouraging this behavior because Jesus came as a servant, to not look after ourselves, etc.

  18. says

Posted on my blog, facebook and twitter. You go, girl!! Thank you for leading us in the journey to Let. It. Go.
I’m so excited for you!! And for all the women that will be touched and challenged by this message. :)

  19. says

Let (3 letters) It (2 letters) Go (2 letters) . . . 3-2-2 That’s my husband’s new “code word” for me . . . when I start to want to have all the control, he is going to look at me and say 3-2-2 . . . a reminder from him (and God) to LET.IT.GO! Book is already pre-ordered – can’t wait to get it! :)

  20. Sherry says

LET IT GO!! I do not consider myself a control freak, more that I struggle with faith in the circumstances. I want to let it all go and give it all to God so that I can be happy no matter what! My husband has been out of work off and on throughout our marriage and I struggle with the Why me’s I try to stay positive but living the day to day is a difficult thing…Looking forward to reading this book, I’m sure it will have good words for me!

  21. Audrey says

God’s timing is perfect. Today’s devotion at Proverbs 31 was confirmation of a conscious decision I made last night to ask God for forgiveness of my selfishness in expecting siblings to do things how I think they should be done…they way our family has always done it. I need to let it go.

  22. Michelle S. says

Karen, I’ve shared your book and Bible study with some friends and co-workers via good old-fashioned word-of-mouth and email as I don’t have or use any social websites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. I would love to win a copy of your book, but if I don’t I will purchasing a copy. I’m really looking forward to reading it.

  23. Tonja says

    Hello, Karen,
I’m sort of web/blog/facebook/twitter illiterate, so I’m not sure if this is even in the right place~ BUT, since I don’t have a facebook account, I wanted to let you know, somehow, exactly how much the 5 days ~ From Chaos to Calm Challenge meant to me. I came across your website because of your devotional with Proverbs 31 the other day regarding…Mama Mouth. I am the ultimate control freak! This, of course results in a great deal of misery for me and my family. The devotional spoke to me, the challenge spoke to me…actually, God spoke to me through you and your writing. Thank you so much~ and Praise God for you. A copy of your book will be purchased as soon as possible! I will be spreading the word to everyone I can. I have one friend, in particular, who almost reaches my max control freak status. She and I joke about it regularly….so, I will be passing a copy on to her for Christmas. Thank you for your ministry~ God Bless you in this endeavor!

  24. says

I try to “LET. IT. GO and remember it’s about building others up, and being feeling cared about and loved rather than what they think of me, my home, or my hostessing ability!

  25. Marjorie says

As a Control Freak, I am doing better in the “I’ve got to fix EVERYTHING” dept. and can, in most cases, get past the initial urge to “fix” something/somebody and turn it over to God. I still need a TREMENDOUS amount of work in the control dept…I need to learn to keep my mouth shut, and to pick (or give up on) battles with my husband over how I think he should do things around the house. In other words, I really need to learn to LET. IT. GO.

  26. sherri says

Today I’ve posted info on BOTH my Facebook page (Sherri Chaffin) AND my Pinterest pages with links to your new book!! LET.IT.GO!!!
I pray that this book is a HUGE success!!!

  27. Nicole I. says

It’s funny that your new book is about letting go and allowing God to be in control. My husband and I had that discussion yesterday about me just letting go and not being such a control freak! I actullay made the decision to let go and allow my faith to lead me instead of my to do lists and expectations of how my life should look like. So thank you and continued blessings. Let it go!!!

  28. Carrie Classay says

Karen~ Your book, and just finding this site, is an answer to my prayers. I’m a new stay-at-home mom…going on my 7th month of being at home while my husband is the sole bread winner…before that I was Miss Independent, provided for myself, and had the freedom to do basically whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. Before I got married and pregnant, I was really frustrated and bitter in my job and prayed that God would lead me down a new path in life, and I knew that I had to follow wherever he was leading me! My husband and I got married and then I got pregnant in the first month of marriage! I knew that God was leading me to stay at home because I, like you state, LOVE to be in control…most of the time without even consciously thinking about it. I knew that God was leading me to stay home (and I can feel it now that I’m actually staying home) to completely surrender to HIM and to learn to trust my husband and place him as the leader of our household. I am still 100% sure I am exactly where I need to be. It’s just so hard at times…and I don’t even mean from a financial aspect. I find myself struggling more with my inner control and wanting to take over and do things “right” aka- “my way!”. Just last night, I was up late because my mind was going a-mile-a-minute, and I couldn’t relax to fall asleep! I know I need to LET-EVERYTHING-GO, but I’m just not sure I know how. I really need help! I want to change, but it’s so difficult! I am very interested in your book, and I really want to get it. I’ve even thought of seeing if I could lead a group of women at my church with your DVD. Thank-you for allowing God to work through your weakness as a way to influence not only yourself but most likely millions of other women!

  29. Deb C says

    Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!
Sent it to all my Bible Study Ladies and others thorugh email!
What an amazing opportunity and blessing to be able to let other women know about this book!

  30. Jeannie Keller says

I am so thankful for this resource and cannot wait to dive in! Just what I need and have been looking for in my crazy mommy life. Thank you!!

  31. Jade says

I’ve been really trying to let this concept sink in lately. My husband actually made a comment last night along the lines of ‘look at that! You let me do that all by myself for 20 minutes before you stepped in …’. I look forward to reading the book and really meditating on it!

  32. says

Karen, I fb’d it (twice) and tweeted it and posted to Pinterest and then tweeted my Pinterests posts of your book stuff. :) Got your back. So very proud of and happy for you!!

  33. Robin says

I am currently struggling with health issues and it is hard for me that my house is not as clean as I would like it, I don’t have the energy to grocery shop and make dinner (that’s why God blessed me with an amazing husband). So for me, I am truly learning to not have so much control and learning to Let.It.Go. :-)

  34. diki b. says

Oh i am so excited for you about your book! I can’t buy it but i am putting it on my dream list along with Greater and maybe i will get one or both for Christmas. It is so awesome that God has given you the writing ability and the honesty to be able to share with all of us that are in the same boat. This is where we learn from each other! Thank you Karen!

  35. Chris says

The day your devotional came through Encouragement for Today to me could only be described as God’s Perfect Timing. Having to “keep it all together” has been my job over the past 18 1/2 years. My husband is in the Air Force, traveling quite a bit for his job, and we have four boys, all close in age. And all are teenagers at this point – with the oldest in his final year of high school and actively looking at colleges to attend.
I’ve had to “keep it all together” many times through deployments, tdy’s, pcs’s (moves), school changes, surgeries, illnesses. It has been kind of natural for me to do so because I am a detail person (okay, and I like being “in control” :) ). But it’s been stressful being “on” so much and micro managing over the years. What once gave me a feeling of accomplishment in being able to be so efficient has become, in recent years, a source of discontent and dischord between myself and my fellas. In just the past couple of months I have been crying out to God to help me to change so that I can cherish, rather than smother, my guys, and He’s been so faithful in helping me.
I had just had another day of struggle and frustration, fighting that need to control every little aspect of my boys’ movements when the very next day your devotional was in my inbox. Like I said, God’s Perfect Timing. Thank you for being open and sharing your story – it helps to know that I’m not the only one experiencing this, and that it is possible to Let. It. Go. I look forward to all that you have to share, and learning even more about the grace of God in our lives.

  36. Logan says

How nice it was to actually hear your voice in the trailer, Karen! It is so funny how we “picture” how someone would sound, were we to speak with them. I was totally off base on your voice! Congratulations on the release of your new book. I will look forward to reading and studying, “Let.It.Go”.

  37. Rosalba says

    3. 2. 1. prestooo. Wow! Your book it’s finally here. I am happy and excited for your new release. Also Thank God for your life and giving you the wisdom to writte this book. me nothing but stress and more stress.

  39. Cheryl Lindsay says

I need to Let. It. Go. Every Christmas I tell myself to be careful with my expectations but every year I let them get in the way and find myself disappointed. I think I really need to read your book!!!

  42. Amanda R says

    Let. It. Go.
Trying to lead my husband to Christ.
Trying to have another child after dealing with infertility and miscarriages.
Trying to protect my child and raise him to be as healthy and happy as possible.
Hard to tell what I can do to help and what I need to give to God.
Let it go needs to be my mantra. But how do I do that???

  43. Mary says

I have tweeted several tweets about Let It Go! This would be a perfect book for me right now as I am undergoing a job change. Best of luck with the new book and the many people that it will impact.

  44. Dawn S says

This book & study (and Christmas challenge) couldn’t come at a better time. With our first Christmas with a second baby along for the ride, I am striving to simplify, de-stuff it all, and just enjoy the memories and experiences we share. With all the other expectations on me too, I need to just LET IT GO!!

  49. Brenda M. says

I so need to read this book. Some things I’ve read so far sound familiar. Thanks for the opportunity to get a copy here.

  50. Karly F says

Thanks for the reminder! Cannot wait to read this! I know there are many things I need to let go of – things that are hindering my walk with God. Sometimes I wonder what I am missing when I am striving to control, rather than resting in His loving, sufficient, faithful arms. Thank you for sharing!

  51. Carissa says

I was just advised today to stop trying to control everything…..then I saw this…. Someone is trying to tell me something. This is now on my holiday list!

  52. Joellyn Hayden says

Posted this to my FB wall. I think I could really use this. I played the part of a frazzled mom at Christmas one year in our Choir program called “one quiet night”. I was told it was “type casting!” 😉 She falls and breaks her leg right at Christmas time and is forced to sit back and let others do for her. I didnt have a hard time getting into character. Can’t wait to read the book. I will recommend it to friends.

  53. Heather Purvis says

LET IT GO!! After the last two weeks I almost feel like its too late, and then I remember that for my God it’s never too late! Thanks for the encouragement!

Sounds like a great bible study for me and also to do with my group of friends who all stay at home with our kids and talk about this exact thing everytime we get together. I would love it.

My name is Rebecca and I need to LET IT GO!! I’m sitting her angry at my husband, of all the odd reasons, for the way he acted tonight at bed time when my son said he wanted to give his life to God! I sat down and got on Facebook to vent about it, when I saw the post about your new book. I really think this was meant to happen! I know God would want me to LET THIS GO!! So, I would love to read your book to see how I could deal with this situation in a way that is pleasing to Him!! Pick me!! Thanks!!

Whatever it takes for you to go through to learn this lesson is up to you, No matter how long it takes, God wil keep giving you opportunties to learn to Let Go and Let God!!! I still don’t have this mastered but I have learned the hard way that I am Not In Control and I need to depend on God to guide and lead me in the way He knows is best for me and His will for my life.

  67. Tammy C says

Cannot wait to read this … it’s as if God had you write the book just for me. We have 13 children, 13 grandchildren and more on the way … the holidays are CRAZY! My husband has been trying to get me to Let.It.Go for years!

I will pray and let go that if God really wanted me to learn how to let go, He will let me win this book 😀 thanks so much for the opportunity..you will help alot of people who really need to learn.

  69. D.M says

Let. It. Go. Three little words that sound so easy…I think I’ve let it go and let God take control only to find myself taking it back again and trying to control the situation again and again. I not only want to break the cycle but need to break the cycle. I can’ t wait to read the book and learn how to Let. It. Go. for good!
