Carrying a Gift to the Throne

When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.  On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Matthew 2:10-11

Merry Christmas to all of Karen Ehman’s bloggers! I am Karen’s friend Sheila. (I adore her so! Don’t you?) I work on staff at Proverbs 31 and am blessed beyond measure.

I love Christmas. My heart is happy-happy-happy when I hear Christmas music especially songs from the “olden days” by Bing Cosby and Andy Williams. IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEARRRRRR!

The song “Mary Did You Know” brings me to tears and to my knees ever year.  I savor the smell of our Christmas tree and the sound of cutting wrapping paper to wrap a gift I know will thrill the receiver’s heart! Many memories and family Christmas traditions are treasured in my heart always and forever.

My favorite Christmas memory happened during Praise and Worship at our Christmas Eve service one year.  The worship leader said to our congregation, “Let’s just close our eyes, worship, and wait on God’s presence.” My husband and I stood with our two little angels (Brittany and Stevie) to do just that. Wait on God’s presence.

With my eyes closed and my heart focused on the goodness of God, we were entering worship, when I was interrupted by a tug on my shirt.

I opened one eye and looked down at one of my little angels. Stevie wanted to whisper something in my ear.  I bent down to listen, as he spoke in the softest loudest whisper he could muster up, “Mom! Mom! When is God coming with all the presents?” Out of the mouth of babes! (Psalm 8:2)

My answer to my little angel that sweet Christmas Eve was that God was on His way.

God is the ultimate gift giver.

He gave His only Son that we might live.

He continues to give by answering prayers and the deepest cries of hearts exceedingly and abundantly with His grace, mercy, love, and goodness.

And what you do not see today, know God’s provision is on its way, because God is the giver of all good things. He loves and gives well.

He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all- how will he not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?

Romans 8:32

Every good and perfect gift is from above.

James 1:17

Have you ever wondered what present you could give back? This Christmas walk into the throne room of God’s presence and gift him with the gift of loving others well.

Love Anyway.

Give Big.

Forgive.

Give Grace.

Give Time.

Give Words of Life!

When you love His children, you gift Him. Just wrap a note in a beautifully wrapped box gifting God that you will love others well this year.

Will you do that?  Oh, how His heart will be thrilled! O Come Let Us Adore Him!

Blessings and Loveeeee to you all and Merry, Merry Christmas from Proverbs 31,

Sheila

P.S Oh, and as for my little Stevie, he opened a few presents the next morning that thrilled his heart! I thank God for that provision and the privilege to love him.

Love Big!

  65. Ladies, I have so enjoyed The Twelve Days of Christmas. What fun to open my email each day, read some awesome words from one of the P31 Ladies, and reply on Karen’s blog. Thank-you for allowing me to be a part of this. I hope that this year I can focus on Jesus more than I usually do. I am away from home and the only Christmas decoration is a box of kleenex. While I will make it home right before Christmas, this time is allowing me the opportunity to focus on the birth of Jesus rather than the baking, the parties, and the decorations. May God bless you all!

We are going to bless our neighbors with the spirit of Christmas & then our family is blessing the people that go caroling with us by having goodies afterwards & starting a new tradition. There has been so many families/people that has told us how they’ve wanted to go caroling & how this event being scheduled has been a blessing. We’ve had so many respond to wanting to join in on the fun! It warms my heart to know my 12 yr old daughter had a part in this…I just pray it will be a blessing to other as it’s been to me!

I *love* Sheila’s words of “he gift of loving others well. ~ Love Anyway ~ Give Big ~ Forgive ~ Give Grace” This is my prayer, that the Lord would make me more mindful of these things over the next year ~ loving others well. I don’t think I show that like I should, it’s more of an inward thing for me, but I am praying the Lord would show me “outward” ways to demonstrate His love through me for others!

  82. I’m going to gift Jesus with a little more of my time…just Him and me! Sounds so meager, but I know this brings our God joy.
Lovely post, Sheila. I remember weeping when I first heard “Mary Did You Know.” Here’s my favorite Christmas memory http://www.circlesoffaith.org/blogs/2012/12/11/the-surprise-of-the-simply-sacred-at-christmas.html.
    Blessings!

  83. Heather says:

These last few weeks, the Lord has been saying, “Follow me!” My gift back to Him is to follow wherever He may lead knowing that He is always the God who answers, who sees, who saves. He will never leave me or forsake me and will walk with me wherever He leads me or sends me.

I am going to give God my family and watch Him work in their lives according to His plan for each of them. I try too hard to figure out what is best for them and steer them in that direction. This year we are going to “gift” a meal to our new principal, and our DCE, and I think our computer teacher and music director. All are single and we want to give them a night with a family and a home cooked meal.

I also now find myself gifting love and grace to a friend who just lost (Jesus called him home yesterday) the man she left her husband for. While I don’t agree with her choices, she is a child of God and is hurting. I know many who have walked away from her before his death. I pray that they may be there to comfort her. It’s a sad situation all around. I pray for God’s healing hand in the midst!

  89. Kelly D. says:

My gift to Jesus is my time. That not only during this busy time of year where it seems there’s just not enough hours in the day, but all year round I will make Him a priority in my day!!!

  90. diki b. says:

My gift to Jesus would be more time spent with Him. I tend to be very selfish with my time and i need to do much better sharing my time with Jesus after all were it not for Him i wouldn’t have any time at all. It’s time to stop being so selfish.

  91. jennifer rae says:

Forgiveness that can only take place without God’s help

  92. Erin says:

Each year we place two special gifts under our tree. The first box contains the story of Christ’s birth from Luke – God’s gift to us. The second box contains a mirror – our gift to God (ourselves). Christmas morning we open the first box and read the Christmas story. Then we open the second box and discuss what God wants – US! This year I bought my son and I “the Story”, a 31 week study through the Bible that we will start after Christmas. My focus this season is to give God more time. As a single mom, time gets away from me quickly so giving more time to God is my small gift back to Jesus this year.

  93. Mary B says:

My gift To Jesus will be to pray for clear understanding of my next step in faith as my family moves across the country this coming year. What will I do to serve him in our new home town? And to make sure my family is also lifted in prayer every day.

  94. Stephanie says:

    my faith in Him

  95. Tristi says:

My thoughts this Christmas have been a little less embracing of the holiday season. I think I’m frustrated with the idea that “Jesus is the reason for the season”. He is the reason for life! We shouldn’t be focusing on Jesus’ birth only at Christmas. We need to live in grateful response to what He has done for us all year long. My gift to Him this Christmas is remembering to celebrate Him all year long.

My gift to Jesus this year is myself. I don’t have much $$ and my talents are already being used!

  100. Barb says:

God has been working on me to forgive my ex-husband……I have carried the resentment for so long I don’t know life without that feeling. So my gift to Jesus this year will be to FORGIVE.
