Welcome to those who have clicked your way over after reading my Proverbs 31 Ministries devotion How to Hear a Heart Drop. (If you haven’t read it yet, click here to do so.)

In the devotion, I talked about hearing a heart-drop that my friend Trisha gave. A heart-drop is when a person, either directly or in a cryptic way, gives you a peek into their heart. It may be through actual words, or you might pick up on a feeling, perhaps sadness or loneliness. It is a window into their soul.

We can become skilled at tuning our ears to the heart-drops of those around us and then responding with a thoughtful gesture. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate gift. It can be a kindly spoken word. A handwritten note. A loving text or encouraging comment left on social media. A shared heart over a cup of coffee. A brief moment where we put ourselves to the side for a moment to pause. To notice. To respond. To echo God’s heart toward them.

Hearing a heart-drop is an art we must lovingly cultivate. It can lead to the most wonderful times of encouragement as we make it our habit to listen and to love.

In the devotion, there was a bit of fun news. Did you catch it?

My recent book Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-Centered World is going to be the next Proverbs 31 Ministries online Bible study!!!!!!!!

You can join thousands of women who are all studying how to lean in and really listen to others and then respond with an act of kindness. Through this interactive, five-week Bible study, you will be equipped to:

  • Step into a new, purposed-filled life as you learn to intentionally love people the way that Jesus does.
  • Turn your attention to the lonely, the forgotten and the outcast as you read through practical ways to care for those in desperate need of God’s truth.
  • Discover how to hug a porcupine and squeeze a skunk, genuinely loving the hard-to-love.
  • Learn how to celebrate your friends and family in new, creative ways through personal stories, fun ideas and delicious recipes!

The study runs from April 3 to May 5. For info and to sign up to join us, click here.

GIVEAWAY ENDED: Congrats Melanie (comment left on March 14, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.) We’ve replied to your comment and please check your email for our notification and reply to it with your mailing address OR you can email [email protected] with your mailing address. Thank you!

Since I can hardly contain my excitement about this study, I am giving away a set that includes four copies of Listen, Love, Repeat and a $25 Amazon gift card.

The books are for you and three friends to be in the online study with us. They don’t have to be nearby friends. Since this is being done online, you can choose friends from anywhere (well, in the U.S. and Canada) and we’ll ship the books to them. The gift card is for you to use as you listen for the heart-drops happening all around you and then reach out with a thoughtful gift or kind gesture.

To be entered to win, leave a comment telling us one of the following:

  • That you signed up to join us for the Proverbs 31 online study.

OR……

  • About a time when you either heard a heart drop or someone heard yours.

I hope you will be joining us to learn how to live an other-centered life in the midst of our self-centered culture!

  6. Signed up for the study. A friend of mine heard my heart drop at the end of the summer. I invited her over and she was going to let me sleep because I was recovering from an asthma attack. She came after doing errands, held me while I cried, and grabbed my guitar and worshipped with me for an hour
