Back to the Books….

Summer is over.

Nothing says that like sharpened colored pencils, three ring binders and scientific calculators.  Tomorrow is the first day at the homeschool academy my kiddos attend. Can’t believe my “baby” is in the fifth grade. He is taking Medieval history, spelling, penmanship and drama. Seems like just yesterday he was in his high chair doing ‘scribble school’ while I taught his older brother and sister their three R’s.

I blinked. He grew up.

You moms of little ones:

Drink in every moment of today. In an instant they are too big to rock and want thick-cut bologna sandwiches with extra mayo in their non-cartoon character lunch pail.

I’m getting’ old.

Sweet Beginning-of-School Blessings,

Karen

  • I have a 10 year old in 5th grade, an 8 year old in 3rd grade, and am getting to stay at home with my 9 month old. I am trying to remember to enjoy the great times and endure the tough times because she will be gone so soon. So very, very soon.

    Enjoying life,

    Josie

  • Oh, Karen, I know you are right! I have a 9yo, a 6yo, and a 4yo. Some days I wonder if they will ever grow up…but already we have moved past the nursing, the diapers, and the binkies!

I am trying so hard now to treasure these moments! As I was tucking in my middle son, he asked me if I would rub his back and sing “the Sunshine song” (aka “You Are My Sunshine”). My heart melts. I’m tired and aching for a few quiet mommy moments, but how can I say no??? THIS may be the last time he ever asks.

    Many joyous blessings,
    Marcia

  • We just kicked off our home school year as well. My eldest has entered high school and my baby Kindergarten. It’s the first time in 15 years, I haven’t had a preschooler – yep, it flies.

I have enjoyed browsing your blog during my lazy summer days. I was cleaning out my school room last week, and came across my She Speaks 2006 binder (yep, it had been awhile since I had purged.) Saw that you were there as an attendee the same year. How fun!

  • Hi Karen,
I can so relate to your feelings. My baby is a senior in high school this year. It seems like only yesterday he was heading off to kindergarten. They grow up so fast.

    Have a great day,
    Deb

  • Hey there Karen,

I have one who is a sophmore in college, a junior in high school and last a sophmore in high school. I found myself singing yesterday “it’s the most wonderful time of the year”. tee hee
It is amazing how much they change in the blink of an eye. My middle son came home today and I asked him about his day. “They are all dumb,” “dumb I said, why”? “Mom none of them will let us sleep”. I told him I loved them.
But I also love the structure that school brings for the whole family.
    Blessings, Diane
