In God, Not Government, We Trust

My friend Debi told me of one of her earliest memories. She was about 4 years old, seated on her daddy’s shoulders outside a train station in rural Michigan. Folks were gathered all around because an up and coming new presidential candidate was making a scheduled stop as his political campaign wound through the Midwest. The image that day was cemented firmly in her mind. Not because her father supported the visiting candidate, but because he was strongly opposed to him and most of what he stood for. She remembers the feeling of dread that came over her when this particular man soon became the president-elect of the United States. In her little mind, she honestly thought the world was coming to an end.

As parents, we have power. Power to point. At this time in history with the economic strain, the moral decay, the civil unrest around the world, we can point our fingers and predict disaster or we can point our kids to Christ.

I am going to choose to point toward God, the one who knows our future and promises us it is full of hope, not calamity. Will you?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13

Sweet Blessings,

Karen

  1. I agree whole heartedly, Karen! Regardless if Obama was the candidate that you (or anyone who reads your blog) or that I voted for, he is our next president. I think that instead of being negative or angry, those who supported McCain should look to God. We should all look to God for guidance, support and ways to help others. In these times we need to stick together and yes, lead our children to follow God….NOT a particular candidate.
