Welcome to our 5th annual 12 Days of Christmas giveaways!.

Each day I’ll feature one of my Proverbs 31 sisters offering a recipe, idea or memory and giving away a prize for the day!

First up?

My fabulous friend and teen expert:

Lynn Cowell

Last  Christmas, I asked my kids this question:

What is your favorite holiday tradition?

#1 – Cutting down the Christmas tree in the mountains (my favorite too!)

#2 – Making Cowell Peanut Butter Balls

#2 is, well can we just say messy! Typically, we will double the recipe, which already makes 125! You would think I would have learned by now that is not a good idea. One year we broke the mixer, so my husband put the whisk in his electric drill. It worked!

These moments in the kitchen, with powdered sugar flying and melted chocolate dripping are the moments when a family can meld together. Working on something together has a way of drawing us closer.

One thing I have noticed while mentoring teens for the past 12 years is so many kids aren’t in the kitchen any more. I have a tradition of having my small group of girls over each Christmas to make goodies. I am so surprised at how uncomfortable they are with measuring and mixing. Whether mom is not around or too busy, they are missing the joys of memories that come from a kitchen.

Do you have a teen near your influence that you could take under your wing this coming year?

Maybe you could start a little group of girls that meet every so often, learn a new recipe and eat it too!

And maybe, while you are mixing and making, Jesus will open a door for you to share about more than baking. You can share just how crazy He is about them. Today’s girl needs you; needs your experience and your love too!

Now for my giveaway:

I am giving away a Willow Tree – “Bright Star” and a signed copy of my book for teen girls called Devotions for a Revolutionary Year.

  1. I love reading the Christmas story to my grandchildren (the adults too) after we enjoy Christmas Breakfast and before we open gifts. We have used my bible, and both of my parents bibles now that they are deceased. Last year I used my great grandmother’s family bible that is over 100 years old. The story is always the same…it never changes.

  2. I’m going to say it is Homemade pizza at my parents house. All the ladies have a hand in making it, some of the guys do to as well as some of the older girls.

  3. My favorite Christmas activity is to sit in the living room with the Christmas tree all lit up listening to Christmas music with my husband :)

  4. I like taking the kids to look at Christmas lights. Where we used to live, there was a “Candy Cane Lane” to drive down with a house at the end where Santa was waiting to hear the kids’ wish list! We just recently moved, so this year we went to an awesome drive-through lights display which Santa also happened to be visiting :) The kids loved it!

  5. It is so hard to pick one. But I think Christmas Eve, when we get together with my side of the family to exchange gifts. We have pizza and baked goods and just enjoy each others’ company. I especially love watching my kids’ joy!

  6. The lights, the tree, nativity scenes, so many things about Christmas are wonderful! But I love reading Christmas stories to my children through the Advent season and pointing the way to Jesus as we wait for Christmas morning!

  7. My favorite Christmas activity is cooking. A few years ago I realized that we were not cooking all our favorite dishes that our grandmother made every year. Everyone felt like they would not be able to make just like her. So I took on cooking all the dishes that she made. Love it! Everyone really looks forward to eating our fave dishes!

  8. My favorite Christmas activity has been making cookies, candy and goodies with my mom. Now that my kids are a little older, they enjoy decorating them…which helps us out a lot!! My little girl is 4 and she LOVES to help me in the kitchen….so this year is going to be awesome having her help us make fun cookies and decorating them!

  9. O Christmas Tree…Christmas will be different this year with a grandson in the hospital ..just had a liver transplant. This makes me evaluate what really is important… When physical life is so uncertain ..it makes you grateful for spiritual life

  10. Christmas Eve on my side of the family is a wonderful tradition for our family. My kids look forward to gathering there every year. We also enjoy putting up and decorating our Christmas tree and the kids and I love to watch Christmas movies during the month with hot chocolate!

  11. My favorite Christmas tradition is attending our Christmas Eve service with my 3 children, their spouses, and 4 grandchildren. It gives a renewed sense of peace after all the hustle and bustle of shopping, cooking, and wrapping!
