It’s All About Her

I remember the first day I met “her.” I was putting away my notes after speaking to a local women’s group when she approached me. She was a lovely  woman but with a worn-out look on her face. She paused a minute before speaking. And then…

“Thank you.”  she mumbled. Assuming she meant for something I said in my talk, I smiled and started to utter, “My pleasure.” when she continued.

“The devotions you all write at Proverbs 31 are so helpful to me. I don’t know what I’d do without them.”

As we visited, I discovered she was in a difficult marriage. Just that week one of my Proverbs 31 sisters wrote a devotion on feeling the Lord nudge her to clean her husband’s messy side of the closet even though she was upset with him. Conviction to do the same caused this sweet gal to quietly straighten and rearrange her husband’s clothes too. He was caught off guard. Her out-of-the-ordinary action cracked open a door to allow communication back into their marriage. Not the yelling and accusatory kind but the calm, honest, I’m-sorry-for-my-actions-let’s-work-this-thing-out kind.

All because of a little 850 word devotion penned out of a marital struggle. Not a struggle that ended in a typical fight. One that ended in obedience to the quiet nudging of God to do the right thing even when you don’t feel like it.

I met another “her” a few months later. I was powering down my computer when her comment appeared on my site. She was a lovely woman with a worn-out feel to her words.

“Thank you,” she typed. “The books you ladies write at Proverbs 31 keep me going. I just joined the online Bible study too. I don’t have many friends in real life and it really gets me down but I feel like you ladies are my friends and you help me follow God. Your writing matters and I just wanted you to know. Thank you.”

Each month I am privileged to meet another “her.” Women who contact us at Proverbs 31 to whisper a thank you.

We as a team are so humbled and honored to serve God and see Him take our little and touch women around the world.

In person at our dozens of speaking events our 12 speakers serve at each year.

Online through our daily devotions that reach over 700,000 women. Or our online Bible studies that have touched the lives of tens of thousands of women. {Our current one has over 22,000 women participating from 120 countries! Only God.}

We have even been told of women in foreign lands who print off the daily devotion and walk it to a village when there is no Internet to share with the women there. Or ones here in the states who forward them to several friends or print them off and read them to their co-workers before beginning their workday.

We can’t do this alone. We rely on our readers to help with the fuel needed to keep this encouragement flowing. Would you consider giving even a small gift to us to help us reach more “hers”? We treasure our partners, both those who give a one-time gift and those who give monthly. We are thrilled to do ministry with you. And we pray for you regularly.

Its all about her. And its all because of Him.

Will you help us go to her? You can click on the image above or you can click here.

Then, the next time I am thanked by “her”, I will smile and say, “It is our pleasure.”

I’ll be speaking of you and me.

  1. I would love to read this 850 word devotion written by you Karen. Could you please direct me to it? Thanks!

  2. I’d love to partner with Proverbs 31, but I always do some financial homework beforehand. Where are financial statements or the 990 tax return for folks to look over before donating? This is the first step within my family when considering how our donations are allocated.
Perhaps you can tell us where this information is located?
    Blessings
