I don’t think Christmas would be complete without an annual turkey stuffing recipe, do you? This is a recipe that was passed down from my grandma to my mom and now to my sisters and their children.

Ask my husband what his favorite Christmas dish is–hands down he’ll say it’s my turkey stuffing. It’s a family favorite and a must-have at every Christmas and thanksgiving dinner!

I hope you enjoy it!

Mom’s Turkey Stuffing

Ingredients:

1 lb. Pork sausage

Breadcrumbs from one loaf of bread (cube and toast in the oven)

1 Onion (diced)

1 pinch of ginger

1 T sage

Salt and Pepper to taste

1 diced Celery stalk

1 c turkey broth or water

*Don’t tell my mom, but I also add a box of chicken flavored Stove Top Stuffing to the mix, just to give it that extra kick of flavor. But it tastes amazing either way!

turkey dinner vegetable detailProcedure:

To make bread crumbs, cube a loaf of bread and toast them on a cookie sheet in the oven at 350 degrees for about 10-15 minutes. Check them often so they don’t over toast.

Mix ingredients together and press into baking pan. Add a little water if necessary to further moisten.

Bake at 350°F for 30 – 40 min.

Stuffing can either be baked separately or stuffed into a turkey or chicken for cooking, although I’ve always made it separately.

You are loved by an almighty God,

Darlene Schacht

  1. Mmmmmm stuffing. I lurve it…lol Any kind will work but I like something crunchy in it like celery or the like. :)

  2. I’ve never been a fan of stuffing. I don’t make it, and if it’s on the table I rarely eat it. I may have taken small helpings at dinners is the in-laws out of politeness, but that’s about the only reason it would ever make it to my plate. I think I remember my husband making it once, but I don’t recall trying it at all.

  3. My Grandma always made the best stuffing! I still remember watching her cook the giblets and chop up all of the ingredients that went into her stuffing. Then she would stuff it all into the turkey. . .all while wearing her apron, of course!

  4. I DO NOT AT ALL like stuffing inside of the bird… This year I made Cranberry Nut stuffing and it was DELICIOUS! My new go to favorite. :)

  5. Love my moms recipe, which is very similar to this one. I will have to try the sausage in it though. Sounds amazing!

  6. I remember one year, someone decided that cooking everything from scratch was too much work so we were to buy everything boxed and canned. The next year, we went back to cooking and baking from scratch! :) Thanks so much for the chance to win!

  7. I basically just use stove top and then will add whatever we like to it like diced apples and chopped pecans. Or even adding cranberries to it.

  8. I’ve never been a fan of stuffing. Years ago, when I was a little girl, I was helping my grandma prepare for our Thanksgiving feast. She asked me, “Do you like dressing?” I thought she meant salad dressing, which I love, so I said that I did like it. When it came to eat, she asked me about her special dressing and I was so embarrassed that I didn’t know what she meant.

  9. I love stuffing and my favorite recipe is one my father made and my husband and I use that same recipe every single holiday!

  10. I love stuffing, as long as it’s not inside of the bird. Mix it with my mashed potatoes and gravy and MMMMMMM! Yum! My husband on the other hand does not like stuffing, so we don’t make a ton at the holidays.

  11. i like my mom’s stuffing in the turkey– her “dressing” in the pan- i dont care for-I have been on my own for 20+ years–i make the box mix!
