Love is in the air and today Sarah Lundgren is showing us how to make this Conversation Heart Garland!

Oh, how I just love words, sparkles, and cute home decor. So, with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it seemed like the perfect time to whip up a little something to combine all three of those things. That is how this conversation heart garland was born!  It’s cute, it sparkles, and it has pom poms on it. What more could you ask for? The greatest part about this project is that you can personalize this as much or as little as you would like!

Here is a list of the supplies you will need:

  • 2 sheets of red stiffened felt
  • 1 bag of 1.5” light pink pom poms
  • 1 bag of 2.5” white pom poms
  • Sharpie marker
  • Scissors
  • White embroidery thread
  • Needle
  • Light pink puffy paint
  • Light pink extra fine glitter

Step One: Start by grabbing a scrap sheet of paper, folding it in half, and cutting out a heart the size you would like for your garland. My heart ended up being pretty big (6.5”x5”), but choose a size you love!

Step Two: Trace your heart template onto the stiffened felt with a pen or pencil and cut out. Make as many hearts as you want! My garland ended up with seven large hearts.

Step Three: Take a Sharpie marker and print your love messages onto each heart. Feel free to add some decoration too!

Step Four: You can leave the hearts with just the black sharpie writing, but if you would like to take it a few steps further then go over all the Sharpie with light pink puffy paint. Take your time and be patient with this step. Puffy paint can get messy if you try to rush it.

Step Five: Sprinkle glitter over the puffy paint and set aside to dry. Once dried, tap off all excess glitter.

Step Six: Now it’s time to assemble everything! Pull out your embroidery thread, cut it to the length you want your garland to be, then on one end thread your needle, and on the other end make a 3” loop and knot (this will be used to hang the garland). Alternate threading your pom pom balls and your felt hearts onto your garland until you are finished. Once you are done, make another 3” loop with the end of your embroidery thread and knot.
