Giving Good Gifts
I don’t know about you, but I am so happy for the internet. I know it is not a new thing anymore, but around this time of year I develop a brand-new appreciation for it.
I mean seriously. I am literally sitting in my onesie, wearing fluffy red socks and sipping on a hot cup of coffee while being the best mom ever! I am Christmas shopping, of course. I’m checking off lists, asking my friends for opinions and comparing prices… while sitting on my couch!
For an introvert like myself, this is lovely!
However, If I am not careful… this does present a bit of a problem.
Besides the potential of overspending because shopping carts don’t seem as full on a screen, I have to be careful not to mindlessly order things that no one needs, even if they have requested them.
Yes, my girls create their lists but at 13, 11 and 8 (twins) they don’t always have the best judgement. They often times want gifts that add zero value to their lives. The responsibility falls on my husband and I to carefully and wisely select the items that will enter our girls’ world. Obviously, this holds true after Christmas, as well.
My prayer this Christmas and beyond is that I prayerfully and wisely consider the impact of each gift and influence that I allow into each of my daughters’ lives. I want them to have fun and I want them to enjoy, but even more than that I want each present to present a future that keeps first things first. After all, isn’t that how God treats us?
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11
May our hearts be set on creating a Christ-centered atmosphere for our children where gift-giving is greater than gift-receiving as we celebrate and receive the greatest gift of all.

Thank you so much for the reminder. Just because our children, regardless of their age, want something – doesn’t mean that the item is wise or beneficial. Good parental judgement is important, especially when we often have to suffer from those choices as well.
I am mom to 5 wonderful young men, but my sister has 4 girls and we are blessed having a God-Daughter so I’m sure someone would enjoy these.
Thank-You for the 12 days of challenging me and making me think differently about how to really celebrate this Holy season. Thanks also to all the wonderful, meaningful, beautiful and some that made me cry comments, Great job ladies! Merry Christmas to all of you!!
I don’t do social media either, like some of the other commenters but it was well worth the read and commenting everyday!
I too have to be mindful while shopping online so I don’t blow my budget.
you are so encouraging and insightful! Thank you for your work!
Giving gifts is so much sweeter than receiving. I hope to teach this well to my daughters! Thanks for sharing!
Great reminder. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing. I don’t have any girls. But my sister does and I know she would love these books.
I would love this for my 8 children. We actually having daughter number 6 in February. We have 5 girls 6 to 17, boys are 1 to 5 years old.
This is a wonderful package! I have a 9 year old who coloring and art is her favorite! Mom and dot time! ??What a blessing!
I love how you talk about carefully selecting gifts that enrich your children’s lives. A summer of camping is part of the gift I’m giving the kids this year :)
I don’t do much shopping on the internet. The irony is that I work at a webstore! Ha! But I truly love to shop local mom-n-pop stores and we have many in our town.
I was just thinking about this very thing today as I shopped online today for my oldest girl, age 9! :)
Gift giving should be emphasized over gift-receiving but even gift giving can become an excess of showering loved ones with “things”. Yes our gifts need to add value. Thanks for sharing!
Wynter, you have a beautiful family. Thanks for the reminder that we need to give good gifts. My niece Emma would love your books.
Wynter , you have a beautiful family. Thanks for the reminder to give good gifts to those we love. My niece Emma would love your books.
Our gifts, the older I get, I try to think outside the box and think meaningful “stuff”. Thanks for the ideas!
This is a good reminder of what and how we should give gifts. I love to give gifts to people.
My daughter will be 7 in January and this would be a great read so I can guide her through these next several years!
I, too, have four daughters and have enjoyed over the years finding unique and meaningful gifts because it is waaaayyy to easy to be overwhelmed with stuff! Thanks for the good reminder.
I understand about shopping online you don’t realize how much your spending until you go to check out then I go back and rethink my orders which I always adjust. LOL Thank you for these special 12 days of Christmas I have enjoyed each and everyday. God Bless you and your family, may you have a Merry Christmas and happy and healthy New Year.
Great reminders! :D
Matthew 7:11 was the scripture that came to my mind as I read your post. Thank you for the reminder to pray about the gifts we bring into the lives of our children.
This is so true. I love finding and giving great gifts to my family at Christmas but always seem to go overboard. They end up with so much that they don’t really get a chance to enjoy it. This year has been different though. Thank you for sharing your insight into this problem and a fitting scripture to go with it. Merry Christmas.
Just added your book on amazon!!! I have 2 granddaughters who would benefit from them!
We are so thankful that our children, 10 and 14, struggle to come up with things for a Christmas list. They are content with what they have! I pray they continue to also have a content heart! As for the giveaway….I teach 3rd and 4th grade girls at church and this looks like a great resource for them.
