5 New Nonfiction books by Karen Ehman for National Book Lovers Day.

Happy National Book Lovers Day!

In honor of this not-so-well-known holiday, here are a few books that are on my nightstand currently. You may want to grab a copy yourself and read away!

Love Life Again: Finding Joy When Life Is Hard by Tracie Miles

I have watched Tracie live this message out in recent years. Her insight and advice will help you learn to adjust to a new normal after a disappointment or loss in your life. Join the online Bible study of this book starting September 4 at Proverbs 31 Ministries. Get all the info and sign up for free here.

On Reading Well: Finding the Good Life through Great Books by Karen Swallow Prior

This book is by a new friend of mine, Karen Swallow Prior, an English professor at Liberty University. It will take you on a guided tour through works of great literature helping you to learn to love life, literature, and God through our encounters with great writing. Inspiring and highly recommended!

Holy Hustle: Embracing a Work-Hard, Rest-Well Life by Crystal Stine. 1 of 5 books recommended by Karen Ehman for National Book Lovers Day.

Holy Hustle: Embracing a Work-Hard, Rest-Well Life by Crystal Stine

I recently received a copy of this book in the mail and not only loved the title–and the cute cover that is done in all the colors of my home office!–I liked what I read in an online description of it. “Balance. It’s what we long for in our lives as we hear shouts of “Work harder!” in one ear, and whispers to “rest more” in the other. What if God’s plan for us isn’t just one way or the other?” This new book promises to teach you how to embrace a work-hard, rest-well life.

When People Are Big and God is Small: Overcoming Peer Pressure, Codependency, and the Fear of Man (Resources for Changing Lives) by Edward T. Welch. 1 of 5 books recommended by Karen Ehman for National Book Lovers Day.

When People Are Big and God is Small: Overcoming Peer Pressure, Codependency, and the Fear of Man (Resources for Changing Lives) by Edward T. Welch

Ok. I am only a few chapters into this one, recommended by a friend who knows me well and who was concerned about my people-pleasing tendencies, but I can already let you know that it is LIFE-CHANGING! People-pleasing is a prison and I am currently incarcerated. However, this book–full of scripture and truth–is helping to set me free. Grab a copy if you can’t seem to say no or worry too much about what others think of you.

Battle Ready: Train Your Mind to Conquer Challenges, Defeat Doubt, and Live Victoriously by Kelly Balarie. 1 of 5 books recommended by Karen Ehman for National Book Lovers Day.

Battle Ready: Train Your Mind to Conquer Challenges, Defeat Doubt, and Live Victoriously by Kelly Balarie

Here is my endorsement of this new book:

Do you ever wonder why you struggle at times with doubt and insecurity, even though you are a follower of Christ? When trials and troubles come your way, does your faith seem to falter rather than flourish? Battle Ready will equip and empower you, teaching you where to park your mind during such difficult times. Its practical advice and pen-to-paper reflection sections, coupled with the truths of Scripture sprinkled throughout, will enable you to avoid defeat and discouragement and walk confidently in faith instead.
